I have a S&W K-22 I bought at an Estate Sale.

It came with a 1 oz Silver bar ,that is Stamped on both sides with :

K-22 and Smith & Wesson Logo

Serial No is #K17##

Was this originally a Commemorative Set ??

What is it worth on Todays Gun market ??

Any and all information will be appreciated.

Thanks, rcroger2001

Yours would probably have shipped around May 1947. The barrel-shaped extractor rod knob was changed to a simple knurled extractor rod end at SN (about) K6xxx. Yours should have the barrel-shaped knob, and that would make it more attractive to a collector as there were so few of them made. Check to see if a matching SN is stamped inside the right grip panel.

Would there be a prefix digit in front on a gun that old ? He has a x in front of the K , denoting a number as in the later ones.

Welcome to the forum. We're really gonna need more info from you to establish the time frame when your gun was made, and offer a market value estimate. Pics would also help.

Is there a number that precedes the letter 'K' in the serial number (on the butt)? We'll need all but the last 2 digits if you're not comfy posting the whole serial number.

Is there a model number stamped into the yoke cut (only visible with the cylinder open)? Could say MOD 17, MOD 17-1, etc.

Can someone tell me How to Post Photos for this forum???

Nice triangulation guys. The OP must have a pretty solid ship date estimate now.

I'd like to see a picture of the silver bar (and gun).

There is NO X in front of the Serial # K 1734

Where did you come up with that??

I'll try to photo the Silver bar BUT it is sealed in Plastic and is showing some Tarnishing.

So, as yet No one has come up with any info about this bar.

Do I have the only one in existence ??? If that is the case then it must be worth $$$, $$$, $$$ Dollars, Right ???

Probably because in your original post you listed the serial number as #K17##. In 1970 the K frame serial numbers reached K999999, so they "started over" by placing a number in front of the K, as in 1K100.

For example,
1K1 – 1K39,500.............1970
2K1 – 2K22.037.............1970
