One Glitch I have with my .45 is that I must depress the slide lock when loading a new magazine in the pistol. Slide locks back, insert a new magazine and pull back slightly on the side and normally it flies forward. With the M&P I MUST depress the slide lock to let the slide go forward. Is this normal? None of my other semi automatics do this. It slows down the reload. Thanks!

No I don’t think that’s normal. Sounds like your slide release is not sitting right.

Could be that it’s defective from the factory if this is a new pistol.

One of the 2.0 changes was a slide stop that would not auto-forward when a magazine was hard rammed. Sounds like they overdid yours.

No that's not normal and really makes no sense that the slide will only go into battery via slide stop manipulation. With no mag inserted and slide locked back can you release the slide by pulling back on it and letting it go forward into battery?

No, the slide stop must be manipulated. I guess it's back to S&W, although I hate to.

You can thank the folks who complained about the fact that 1.0s would automatically go into battery 100% of the time if magazines were firmly seated.

It was never a problem, but rather a helpful feature, yet because people perceived it as an issue, they complained about it until S&W made it so that absolutely could not happen via a modification to the slide stop.

Granted, yours is definitely locking up tighter than it is supposed to, but the problem most likely wouldn't exist at all if it weren't for the unnecessary modification, presumably added for worryworts concerned over the possibility that it could result in the slide going into battery, yet weren't confident in their own ability to remedy the situation with a simple tap to the rear of the slide with their palm on the 1% chance that such were to occur at a critical moment.

Check the slide lock lever to see if it's bent. It's a thin piece of stamped metals you should be able to bend it back to it's intended design.

Shoot 100 rounds, try it again. Satisfaction not guaranteed, but a high degree of probability. If not, then contact S&W.

Try it with another magazine if possible to isolate what is causing the problem.

The auto slide drop or "birthday bump" can catch you out if you've been trained to always rack the slide.

Is the gun new or used? It may have suffered from disassembly at the WECSOG. I would inspect the movement of the slide lock and make sure that the little spring was pushing it down, not up.

It's new. I contacted S&W.
