Yesterday I picked up a S&W M&P R8 that I ordered from my LGS. What a beautiful gun. I can't wait to shoot it..

One question - The rail that came with is is silver in color and the pictures I see has it in black. Also I see pictures show it coming with screws and an L-Wrench to install it. Mine only came with the silver rail.

Just curious. Not that big of a deal. I just figured it would come with the screws to attach it if I wanted.

Thanks

A guy at my local range had a new one the other day. His rail was black -- and it was on the gun, so he must have had the screws. Give S&W a call. Wouldn't hurt.

Thanks

I called Smith & Wesson and told them about the rail and he acted like he didn't believe me. He asked where I got the silver rail from, I told him it came with the gun and he said impossible. He is sending me the rail and the screws.

The gun had a slight rattle to it and I was trying to figure out what it was. The S&W Rep told me it is the firing pin block that moves freely causing the slight rattle. Thoughts?

I took off the grip to see if it could be something inside the grip causing the rattle and a small pin fell out. That was not causing the rattle, but I was wondering about this pin. See Pic below:

Here's a pic of the rail that came with the gun:

You can just hear that customer service rep yelling at the production guys, "Hey, what're'ya doing to me??? Come on -- get together out there!"

That pin that you had rattling around looks just like two pins that are in the grips of my 686 SSR. The pins are just part of the grips. If you look inside your grip you will see where it should be. At least I hope thats what this is for you.

Mine didnt come with a rail in the box, all though I ordered the M&P R8. I called S&W and they sent the rail (blue) but didnt send the screws. So I called them again and they hooked me up, but I have never seen a silver rail. I think S&W has a limited edition with the receiver milled in a silver strip. Either way I would call S&W and ask for a blue rail...

Anyone have any idea...

See the picture of the pin. That fell out when I took off the grip on my R8?

Any clues?

Thanks.

Thanks.

I thought it was part of the grip. Thanks to all who replied. I appreciate it!!

Not to hi-jack the thread but how come they didnt come out with a shortened version of the TRR8 or MP8?? With a 4" barrel. That woulda been perfect

Groo here
The 5in gives best speed for the length..
The correct barrel lengths are really 3-3 1/2 and five..
The 4in came out when cops started to drive cars so as not to poke
holes in the seat..

I have a fairly new S&W TRR8. It also had a light rattle. Once I did my initial cleaning, fired the gun for the first time, and followed that with another detail cleaning, the rattle stopped. Pull the hammer back, put a very small drop of oil down the hammer so it runs into the action. I am guessing it was just too dry as the rattle never returned.

I hope this helps.

When I ordered my 327 TRR8 it had a silver rail in the box also.....I called smith and they sent me a black one at no charge.....just give them a call

Well I received my correct "Black Rail" for the gun. However the screws they sent with the rail to attach it to the gun are to short. I put the screws in the rail to attach it and the screws don't even come close to the gun.

I am so disappointed in S&W right now. I spend alnost $1100.00 for a Performance Center gun and I am sent the wrong rail, no screws. no tool to attach the rail. I call S&W to get them to correct the situation and having the CS Rep act like I am lying about getting the wrong rail, I have to wait 8 days for the items to arrive and they still get it wrong. Really?

I guess I will call again today and wait another 8 days for the screws to show up. Hopefully right this time!

I know this may sound petty - I guess I just expect better when I spend $1100.00 on a gun.

R8

Gunner man---I'd like to share an experience I had with my upper rail. I bought my gun used, rail attached. When I went to take the rail off, all the screw heads stripped out. I had to drill and easy out all the screws to get the rail off. That was 3 years ago.
I called S&W and they sent me new screws and rail. I put the rail on about a month ago, but deceided to remove it a couple of days ago. When I attached the rail, I was cautious to not tighten the screws excessively.

Well, when I went to remove the rail, two of the screw heads stripped out. I bought a "Grab it pro" tool, and got the screws out easily.

I thought I would clue you in on not over tightening the screws. I thought I didn't overtighten, but apparently these screws get tight and strip out easily.
