Hi,

I just purchased this gun. I love the Shields. However, I noticed something different about it. It has the Warning about gun will fire when magazine is removed stamped twice. I got a little sick at my stomach thinking this would really detract from the gun and make it worth much less than if it was cleanly stamped. My father says it isn't a big deal and that most gun owners don't pay any attention to that sort of thing. So should I be upset and if I ever decide to trade or sell it would it decrease the value? Thanks and I will try and post images of it here as well.

You paid good money for a new gun, I would send it back, just on principle. While it doesn't affect the gun in anyway, it should never have left the factory like that.

That would drive me nuts. I'd have to send it back. And though I believe a gun is a tool and tools get bumped, nicked and scratch with even the best of care, I couldn't live with that "nick".

Same thing happened to me

I didn't have my reading glasses when I picked up my new Shield last week, so I missed it until after I got back from the range and cleaned it.

The next day it was back to S&W on their dime. Hope to get it back soon.

Heck... post it up for sale on Gunbroker..... sell it to the highest bidder... put a high reserve on it and see if the collectors have interest in it... if it sells... buy another, maybe have some good money in your pocket leftover...:)

Sorry, not a one-of-a-kind. I picked mine up a couple weeks ago. Barely made it to the LGS before closing time and so didn't do a very thorough inspection. If this made it through QC, what else might have been missed?

My husband and I were joking about it the night I picked it up. What it should say is, "If you can read this, you're too drunk to operate a firearm." :p

I would not want a pistol with that type of marking. It does not make it a collector's item, and since it obscures a warning, which is thought to be legally required, it might detract from the value. In addition, it is not attractive.

i'd not of left the store with it. my habit with a f2f transaction is to examine and ask any questions before starting the paperwork. on those occassions when time is too short to complete a sale comfortably i 'll ask that the item be set aside and return the next business day.
rushing something seldom saves time in the end.
i'd want it replaced -- as has been mentioned:
if QC missed that, what else may also have been overlooked?

good luck.

It does show how S&W is reverting back to it's 70's business model of pumping as much product out as they can and IF it comes back, we'll fix it.

I'd keep it and try to shoot it to death. It does make a nice conversation piece, especially with people who love S&Ws-it'll drive them nuts.

I probably should have looked it over better, but these Shields are so hard to find around here. May not take as long to get it back as it would be to find another one.

For crying out loud... it's just a double stamp.. chill out.. you act as though S&W is going down the tubes. Some of you guys are the same guys that'll cry that you have a gun on back order from them.. wa wa wa.. why is it taking so long.. or the same guys that'll cry about the price going up... when they hire more workers to check the warning stampings...

Just to clarify, this was not directed at the OP... I'm all for sending back.. as well as other options..

You can just chill out when it is your hard earned money being spent. I, however, am not happy with it and will either sell it or send it back in. If it happened to you, you may understand or not care, but as anyone can see by the reponses it is a big deal and S&W messed up. So everyone does from time to time and I am sure they will make up for it, but telling people to chill out over a clear mistake is very wrong.

Nothing whatsoever against OP if/when you decide to send it back, but for what it's worth, I think that looks kinda cool actually. Almost like a fancy engraving scroll or something. Far cooler, in any event, than the regular warning.

I also agree with those who have said shoot the heck out of it regardless of what you decide to do with it.

Cheers and good shooting,
D

I didn't direct that at you, so chill out. I would return it for replacement. Just don't think a few here need to use your situation as a stepping stone to diminish S&W reputation.
