I picked up an unfired 38 Military & Police revolver 4" blued, square butt, s/n S871XXX that appears to be unfired. It has the original gold cardboard box with owners manual and original hang tag with the price of $62.00 on it. 43802 is stamped on the inside of the crane. The barrel is marked "SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS. U.S.A. PATENTED FEB.6.06SEPT.14.09.DEC.29.14

Can anyone tell me about this revolver and its value? Thanks in advance.

Its value is probably close to what you picked it up for. What did you pay for it ?

The gun was made post-WW2, during the period of time that the factory was using
up what was left from the Victory production, and at some point, changing the
design of the gun, to be shorter action.

If you have access to a camera, or even a cell phone with photo capability, post
a couple of pictures. That will help a great deal, in offereing comments.

Don't let the box get away, they can be very valuable just on their own, and even more so with the revolver and papers.

LT902,
Post WWII transition m&p's are one of my favorite collecting areas. Some of these had pre-war magna sytle grips which would make this package a little more valuable. A picture would be helpful. Most of these go for between $400-$500.
