I just bought a NIB 17-6 with the finger groove combats...
1. Is this model any more valuable than other M17?
2. Anyone have any imput with this gun, is she a good Model 17?
I had a chance to buy a mint NIB one yesterday; it was gorgeous, but, at $800 I passed, especially since I'd already snagged an 8 3/8" 17-4 recently...
Great guns all the way around; love the full underlug!

i bought mine (off a very kind friend) about a month ago for $600. its like new in box....its a gem...but i tell you, you dont see them and i would probably pay $800 to have another.

I hear you guys, I did nto want to pay $700.00, I thought it was a bit "Strong" but I could not find another one in that condition. Iwould love any model 17 in a 8 3/8, always wanted one! Now to find that and a nice MOdel 18, once I have some money again!
However you can see from my earlier postings that it had some rust. Once I dealt with the cosmetics I took it shooting and she is more accurate then I will ever be.
Essentialy the same as the 17-4 and 17-5 but with a full underlug barrel.
The next evolution after the blued steel 17-6 was the stainless version that would be the 617.
I bought a 4" 17-6 in mid-February. They had a as-new 6" 17-6 there as well for an asking price of $700. I felt that was a bit strong, but after reading some of the recent threads, maybe that is pretty close to the going rate. I paid less for my as-new blue 17-6 and I'm learning that I got a pretty good price on it. I bought another gun that day and suspect that I overpaid a bit on it, so you win some and you loose some.
I to felt that $700 was strong, but I kept searching and searching and could not find anything and I keep reading on this board that S&W .22's( K22's, M17's and pre lock M617's) are starting to climb a bit so I just bit the bullet... I try my best and look for bargains......
It seems the finger groove combat stocks raise the price. I still find the earlier mod. 17's without the under-lug easier to shoot. Both are great guns.
