S&W Mod 10-8 Calgary Police Service

Condition is everything, as with any gun. Say it's typical of a duty gun used for years in day-to-day service (lots of surface wear, but in good internal condition), I'd say a plain Jane ex-LEO M10-8 would sell in the $200 to $350 range.

This is a factory new, never been fired, Smith & Wesson Model 10-8 that was manufactured in 1985 as a 100th year commemorative issue for the Calgary Police Department. The barrel is marked "Calgary Police Service" "1885 Centennial 1985" and the department insignia is on the side plate. It comes in the original lined case. Would like to know what to pay for this gun as I am interested.

I am far from an expert on collectible firearms, but I doubt this one would fall in the category. I might understand its possible interest to someone with a connection to the Calgary Police.

To me it fits in the area of too fancy for a shooter and not of importance to the collector community.

I will follow the thread to see if my uneducated opinion is squashed.

The Model 10 is a great revolver, but without provenance of some sort it fits in the category of too many to be rare.

S&W has done a lot of these police comemmoratives for LEO agencies. They don't fetch as much as a NIB plain version of the same gun. If you're jonesing for that LEO agency's gun, it's probably worth $500 to $600. I recently paid about $640 for a similar Chicago Police 125th anniversary model 66 with all the original stuff, but gently used. I only bought it because I couldn't afford a plain Model 66 in similar condition with box and accessories.

Well, let's approach it from this angle, what is the asking price? There is a very limited market for such things, so if your'e thinking of buying, putting away for it to increase in value, probably not a good idea. If on the other hand the price is attractive to you and you plan on using it for a shooter and conversation piece, then go for it. Can you post some better, detailed pics? Hard to tell from that little thumbnail. Some people just like to collect "Police" stuff. There's your limited market. Remember, they were made with department personnel in mind. Apparently, someone really didn't want it any more. JMO ;)

I've been fortunate to buy 2 cop commemorative 66s in the wood case NIB from folks who realized they were just new 66s. I forget what I paid 4 and 3 years ago, but it was not exorbitant in either case. They're great shooters.
