I recently bought a well used (probably LE based on looks) S&W model 1076.
Some previous owner replaced the Novak lowmount sights with Trijicon night sights and did a very poor job (didn't fit the front sight properly, pounded on the sight so much it peened the right side out so far it actually was wider than the dovetail in the slide; also hit the slide a few times with the punch and left marks...). I've got the sights out and plan to replace them with Novak lowmounts like the pistol came from the factory with.
The trigger play spring has one half of the spring broken off and I'll probably replace it.
I also noticed that the 1076 didn't have the sear release lever in the frame (haven't thought through it enough yet but think it may be due to the 1076 having a frame mounted rather than slide mounted decocking/safety lever).
Lastly, I noticed that the firing pin safety lever was missing the spring that sets in the frame below the lever that keeps the lever raised. On my pistol, the lever simply sets flat and flush with the top of the frame.
I'm assuming that, at some point, someone had the pistol apart, lost the spring and simply put the pistol back together without the spring.
It's, of course, also conceivable that the S&W didn't put a spring under the firing pin safely lever but I find that hard to believe.
Does anyone else have a 1076 with the spring missing?
