S&W model 19-1...UPDATE IT SHOWED..

I am away from my reference books.
Does a S&W model 19-1...have a bit of a
higher value than say a 19-3, 4 etc...?

Yes.
There was only a short window between the -1 and the -2 change, therefore fewer were made. Scarcity equals a higher value.

The price was $850....no bargain to say the
least. But, I felt they are not a common find.

Did you get it? Try finding one in nickle has been unrewarding thus far for me. The blue book of gun values has them priced way higher. Its interesting. The 19-1 rated at 100% lists at 1850.00 . The guide does not diffirenate bewteen 19-1 nickle or blue in regards to price. The 19-2 lists at 700.00 in 100%. I do just consider this a rough guide. I have seen them go much higher. I am using the 25th anniversary edition. I'm thinking a 19-1 nickle with box n papers will go north of 1850.00. I bought a blue one last year off of gun broker for about 600.00. It did not have the box and papers. Some one had polished or jeweled the hammer n trigger. It did have diamond gripsAnd is currently the only dash 1 I have.

I bought a Model 19 a couple weeks ago
from our classifieds.
It was wearing some fine stocks.
They will go on this one nicely..

The 19-1 is a transitional gun using the old 4 screw frame with the new Left hand thread ejector rod but it did have a fairly short run which makes them desirable especially to those that collect each revision and need to fill the gap,
condition is everything in a collectible S&W but while $850 is a bargain for a high condition 19-1 one in rough cosmetic condition would warrant no premium IMO.

The 19-1 showed up today.
1961 vintage in much better shape
than I thought it would be.
Faint turn line. No holster wear. Trigger and
hammer case color's are weak.
Bore, lock up, timing as new.
I would give it about 95%...+- a point or two.

I picked up my Nickel 19-1 at the San Antonio gunshow. I looked at it on Saturday and the dealer wanted $650 for it and I haggled and looked and went back and haggled some more. We just couldn't get together. I came back to Austin and I dug out my Blue book and decided I better go back on Sunday and pay the man what he wanted. When I arrived at his table Sunday I saw where he had crossed out the $650 and raised the price to $750. Some one must have told him he was selling it too cheap. I didn't say a word and just gave him the $750 and left. I don't think he ever realized the real value and I didn't plan on educating him.

Seems all 19's are desirable right now.

There is one at a pawn shop in Grand Prairie, TX that has an asking price of $1299. Rough shape, bluing loss on the muzzle, etc.. Think that is quite a bit high price for this gun
