I have a model 22A that was given to me and I am totally ignorant of how to take it down. To add salt to an open wound, when I attempted to take it apart to clean it, a long spring with a piece of metal attached?? zoomed past my ear and disappeared into the high grass. Never to be seen again.!!! I do not even know what this part looks like as S&W told me they don't have a schematic of the gun on the net. They will send me a spring and stop pin, but I don't have a clue about how to install it. If you have one of these guns, a photo of this feature would be greatly appreciated. Your thoughts on assembly / disassembly are also requested. Thanks for your help.

If you click on "SKU listing" at the top of this link, it'll list the parts for you.....

IIRC, what you have to do is push the button in front of the trigger guard, with the slide locked back, and CAREFULLY hinge the front of the barrel up.

I don't own one of these, but a few guys I know do.

I have one of these and they are designed somewhat like the model 41. I sent you a PM with a link to the online S&W 22a manual. I suspect part numbers 32,33 & 34(recoil spring assembly) are the ones that went flying to hide in the grass. Not all that hard to replace, but disassemble/reassembly takes a little practice.

Thanks guys, you all have made my day. The schematic, I have saved to my PC and the pdf manual were just what I needed. Thanks for the rescue, I didn't have a clue on where to start with the 22A, I'm a wheel gun guy and this kind of threw me off my feed. Appreciate the help. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.
