S&W Model 28

I really like both 27s and 28s. My first LE duty gun was a 4" Model 27-3 (see bottom photo). Top photo is a Model 28-2. These photos let you compare the difference in polish and bluing, red sight insert, plus the top-strap checkering. If you get the 28, please show us photos.

I have one, a 6" 28-2. I added the Target Stocks. It came to me wearing Pachmyar grips.
My brother bought it new and let me take it rabbit hunting for years.
He gave it to me in 2014. He said that it should be mine because I was the only one who had ever fired it.
I've put more hot .357 loads through this than all my other hand guns combined.

This is how it rests on top of my nightstand.

My check was cashed July 2nd. I'm looking forward to getting my letter. :D

Highway Patrolman designed as the "working man's" version of the Model 27. As mentioned, serial number probable to 1961. 1961 mfg probably makes it a 28-2. If it's a 28-1 you just found gold. Diamond magna grips probably standard for that year. Value estimates will vary on condition, location etc.. Look at what they have been sold for on Gun Broker to give you and idea but $600-$1000 is a good range. I paid $450 for my 28 no dash about 6-7 years ago. It was a great deal at the time. Today, it would be a steal. I would have posted a pic of mine but the forum is only allowing me to post on "quick reply".
