I purchased a 39-2 this afternoon, getting ready to go try it out in the next hour or so. The sn is A4159xx can any one help me date this pistol? I have been told by family that I can not purchase S&W book as christmas is coming, so I need help on this one. Thank you

i too bought a 39-2 today at the lgs at which i work . it was made in 1977, no box but two mags. my prioce is 200.00 so i couldnt resist. i carried one as a off duty weapon at about that time and always like it.
i cleaned it and it camed out nice.
however i need info on spare mags for it. they dont have to be 39 mags but are there any deal out there on 3904 3906 etc mags. smith lists them for 41.00 i would like to beat that if possible.

First time out

Just got back from the range. I fired the 10 meter range with the 39-2. Had a lot of wind from the side but I have found the 39-2 is very accurate. Lot of fun to shoot. The shells go thru fast.

I have 3 model 39-2's from the early/mid 1970's. I mostly use Promags from Midway and have had no problems with them. They are well made and made in USA. I think they are around $20.00. I did buy some S&W original factory mags on Gunbroker and Ebay but they were all around $40. I don't think you'll find them much cheaper as they are becoming scarce.
