I recently received my father's daily carry piece that I have coveted for years. It is a 39-2 with serial number A1599XX, anyone have any idea of when it was manufactured?

There may not be any way to tell when it was manufactured. S&W keeps track of shipping dates.

The only way to know for sure when it was shipped from the factory is a factory letter. Dates often vary widely from the estimates in SCSW 3rd Edition.

It could have sat in the factory warehouse for years before being shipped, which accounts for the wide variance often seen in serial number estimated ship dates and actual ship dates.

I will post some more as soon as I can. My dad carried this thing every day for 20 years. It is well worn and quite nice.
