S&W model 39-2

HI--trying to field strip a S&W model39-2 semi auto 9mm. Last did it about 10 yrs ago. The slide retaining pin is stuck, will not pull out. How can I remedy this without damaging the gun? Thanks.

I have tried a few drops of gun oil and tapping the pin with a short dowell rod&hammer; no luck.
How about penetrating oil--will it discolor the steel? I've owned this gun for almost 30 yrs and kept it looking good though obviously not doing proper maintenance if I let that pin get stuck in there--my own d fault! Thanks for any advice, Jim

Hello mooj,

This has happened to me as well when not removed for a while.

What's worked for me is to add one drop of gun oil at the slide stop. remember that to remove the stop you must move the slide and match the recess in the slide to the forward end of the slide stop first. You may need to lightly tap out the slide stop with a plastic tipped small hammer

Also, remember that the mag must be removed and the safety in the fire position. Always check that the firearm is unloaded first.
