You're very welcome, it was my pleasure ! I especially liked the assorted Serial # & Model data, as you never know when it could come in handy.

I found the bit about the Walther P-38 "heritage" to be really interesting. I've wanted a P-38/P-1 for about forty years now. I was snoozing when the big bath of C&R eligible ones came into the county a couple years back.

I liked the 39 when I was young as well but never made the leap.

I used to have a P38 and a P1. Sold both a few years ago and traded for a Shield. Never warmed up to either one.

Nice read, thanks for sharing.

If asked to critique it I would add a group shot of a pre 39, a 39, a 39-2 and a 439...and maybe a 539.
In the very end the author finally properly identified his pictured gun that he called a "Model 39" is actually a 39-2 but I'm sure most people picked that up from the start .

I have thought about writing a thread on the evolution of the Model 39 including all the little changes that occured like the changes in the safety levers, Barrel bushings, slide stop cutouts, tangs, extractors etc

Great article. If you are a member of the SWCA, go to theswca.org as there is a fairly large database on model 39's and some 39-2's and also databases on a multitude of revolvers. If you are not a member, you should consider joining as this is one of the many benefits of being a member.

The 39 is a good looking gun. I have a 639 that's probably one of the most accurate guns I own. I'm not sure if it's mechanical or how well it fits my hand. The trigger is great, too - probably an 8lb DA and 4# SA.
