S&W model 41 Lets see what you got

Here's my baby, S&W letter states it was sold to the Marine Corp, Ny in 1962.
She still shoots like a champ, and I shoot her every chance I get.

WBW2 on your lettered 41 to USMC, was there any military markings on it anywhere? Was the bbl listed as the 7 3/8" bbl? I have Army (5.5") and AF (5") units that are marked, but Marine unit new to me

It lettered as 7-3/8, but there are NO U.S. property marks on it anywhere.

I am unsure as to it's past, maybe there was a Marine PX in NY that it was sold to, all I know is the letter said "sold to Marine Corp, NY, NY.

WBW2 - Thanks for response. Generally if sold for a shooting team. usually military marked. By asking, we continue to build a history of info. With your SN range of 38XXX it is in the period where AF and Army were buying for competition.

Here are a couple of more to add to the gallery, 76XXX & 79XXX.

Now over the course of 40 years or so I have managed to accumulate a few bits and pieces to go with the pistols. I bought the weights new with 79XXX from H H Harris in Chicago (March 1967)

My local gunshop owner has a 41 he's offered to me. It is a pre-A, cocking indicator, 5", EFS, extra 5" field barrel, NO box/papers etc. What is a good price? The gun is immaculate as is the extra barrel. Thanks.

Red Dot mounts; If you look at the second from the top barrel in my collection you will see the full S&W rail. The third barrel has only a section of the rail mounted right in front of the rear sight. IMO the 3rd barrel doesn’t have quite enough rail, so take a hard look at what you what you want and where before you drill.
I have had the Docter all over the barrel looking for the fastest place. For me the center of the barrel is the best and reduces my “Red Dot Waffle”.
Your results may vary.

As a shooter without the extras box, papers, tools $500-650.

But it has 2 barrels that are fairly rare and usually in high demand.
Either of the barrels could be sold for over $275-325 if in the condition you describe.

I suggest you just give me the dealers phone number and I'll buy so you won't have to worry about it. :>)

Here's mine with extra field barrel.
