S&W model 41 Lets see what you got

My oldest one is serial no. 12304 and my newer one which is actually a 46 is in the 44.000 series area. They translate to 1958 and 1963 I believe. Love them both. :)

S&W 41 122XX Jun-58 NOTE - These are Ship Dates - Stuff ain't necessarily shipped
S&W 41 131XX Sep-58 in numerical order - at all

S&W 46 451XX Sep-63

Mine is in the 12000 range which is from the year 1958 and I am fortunate enough to own a m46 as well in the 45000 serial no. range. No Good at posting pics but I just love my m41 which I shoot so well with it scares me sometimes just how good I shoot. Ya right I know its the gun not me as I am past 65. I use the 46 as my backup but the poor thing is hardly ever needed to be put into service as the 41 is so reliable.

model 41

Hi guys just got a model 41 last week, couldn't wait to try it out at the range. Loaded a mag, took aim and started shooting. Round 6 of the magazine, stoves pipe, cleared it and carried on shooting. Round 8 jam, cleared it only to find round 8 had damaged 9,cleared 9, shot 10 mag empty. This went on and on with all magazine of which two are brand new. Changed the ammo, same problem, changed the ammo again, same result. Went home feeling a bit flat. Field stripped the gun and cleaned it, not much build up, pritty clean. Did notice that whilst loading snap caps into the mag and dropping the slide without firing it, snap caps fed and ejected nicely. But as soon as I repeated this but fired on each round they started to jam up and double feed. Can any one help me with this problem as it isn't easy for me to send it away just yet as I have only just got it.?

mine is serial # 407XX if someone would be so kind as to enlighten me as to year of production I would greatly appreciate it. I have read conflicting information on this.

I am trying to determine the approximate serial number range for 1961...my birth year. ..so I know what to look for.

the efs 5.5 inch and 5 inch field grade barrels were items I acquired when purchasing a couple 41's with extra barrels :)

does S&W even manufacture the 41 any more?

it's listed in their current product lineup, but I have not seen it show up in any distributors for the past few years.

I just bought one of the last guns to leave the Houlton Maine factory. Smith pulled production of several guns from Houlton last winter. Apparently they have not made any in Springfield yet, so who knows when they will actually get around to it. Historically they would knock out a small run every so often. If you have one, keep it. If you want one, buy it.

I am NO good posting pics but my 41 was born in 1958 and my 46 was born in 1962. Both are the long barreled units. Either size is good for bad hands as I have a pair of them. Major surgery on both paws numerous times. Limited grip problem but love them anyways.

I bought one yesterday (8/9/14) manufactured in Springfield on 7/26/14.

M-41's

Time to contribute. Top 41 with 7 3/8" bbl. sports a 41-1 short conversion & is on an A 485XXX frame. The 41 with the stainless Bully bbl. & scope is on an older A 40xxx numbered frame. Am told the A was used on duplicate #'s. Third #A 482XXX has a 5" light weight field bbl. with a red ramp front sight. The three spare barrels are 1) 5" light weight field bbl. with a patridge sight. This one has the lazy & and exposed barrel weight. 2) 7 3/8" barrel with false muzzle and 3) 7 3/8" with lazy & that had been D&R before I bought it. Have substituted original grips with Herrett's trainer grips. Have all the muzzle brakes but prefer to install false muzzles. They are easier to clean.

It's nothing special

but here's mine. I often consider selling it because I never shoot it. I prefer my Ruger MKIIs. But I probably won't sell it because if S&W quits making them I know I'll want one again and they will be more expensive.

It came with this barrel.

I bought this barrel on Gunbroker. When I shot one in college this is how it was configured and I prefer it this way.

A local gunsmith had these grips sitting around. They don't fit the pistol great but they do fit my hand pretty well.

This 1986 model has never been a picky eater. Have yet to have a jam, FTF or any other problems shooting all types and brands of 22LR. Not a safe queen just a shooter.

New Model 41

I just came back from the FFL picking up a new Model 41 I ordered from Clark Custom Guns.
Sorry for the pictures but still at my office with the Fluorescent lights.
Has a 6.5 Custom-STC barrel with Aristocrat rib and threaded.
Hard Chromed the frame and has Clark's trigger work done to it. Unfortunately it will shoot better than me.
The test target was 10 shots inside a 3/4" area at 50 yards.
My weekend is set.

Mark, thats gorgeous. What suppressor do you have on it?
Mine is sitting at the FFL waiting on the stamp.

Thanks! The can in the epic is a Sparrow but I have....several other cans and the Sparrow will probably not be on there long term....a little too heavy and probably overkill.
