I purchased a new S&W Model 41 Performance Center about 8 months or so ago from Cabelas. Regretfully I lost the front sight a few days ago. I looked on the Internet and called S&W, nobody has the sight in stock.

I do see where I can buy "blank" DX Style sights from Bowen Classic Arms. The base of the "blank" sight seems to have the same triangle shape as the one I lost. Does anybody know if it will fit my Model 41?

Here is a link to my S&W on the S&W sight and also a link to the "Blank" on the Bowen sight.

Product: Model 41

DX Front Sight Blade Blank [P409] - $16.95 : + Bowen Classic Arms +, Parts Store

I think I have 4 options.

1. Buy the "blank" and have it milled to fit. I'm hoping it would be high enough. The "blank" is only $17 or so.

2. Wait on Smith and Wesson to get the sight in stock. This could take a very long time.

3. Get a Gunsmith to CNC a replacement or modify the barrel on my S&W to accept a more standard sight. (could be very expensive).

4. Buy a non Performance Center 5.5" barrel from eBay for about $470.00 or so. (last resort)

Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks,

S&W Model 41 Performance Center Front sight

Check EWK arms. I believe he makes a fiber optic front sight for the PC41.

Thanks.....

The great thing about this sight is that since it's made for the PC model I don't have to worry about the sight being too low and the rear elevation not being able to compensate.

I would give Bob Brownells a call, they have about any sight you could ask for. Just ask to talk to their man who knows about sights.

or Bowen would know if you ask them.

Thanks...... I've been to their websites and didn't see the sight listed. I didn't think about calling them.

How did you lose the sight? If it simply fell out unknowingly, then I would look at it as being a manufacturer's defect and S&W should replace it free.

I was at the Gun Range and stayed until about 10 minutes before they closed. I had a couple pistols with me and probably pulled them back out of the bag re-positioning them before leaving for the night. It wasn't until I got home about 45 minutes later and I pulled them out of the bag for cleaning that I noticed the sight missing. This type of sight has fairly sharp edges on the back of it and can easily snag on anything and release the sight from the barrel if you aren't careful. It doesn't take a lot of force. After I got home checked the gun bag many times, look around the house and couldn't find it. We do have a small dog who will pick up anything she see's laying around that looks interesting. The next morning I was at the range about 10 minutes before they opened. I told them what had happened but I was too late, it wasn't there, they had swept up the range after closing so the sight most likely went into the big dumpster out back or the dog found it on the floor at home and carried it out into the back yard into the grass. $50 lesson learned....

The sights that 03Fatboy pointed me to should actually be an improvement over the factory sight I lost. I have a very similar style of fiber-optic sight on my Browning Buck Mark UDX Plus.

I would still pester S&W about a replacement. You never know when you might want to return the pistol to stock in order to sell or trade it.

Sell or trade it?

Nah, that gun will be handed down in the family or buried with me when I kick the bucket.

I called Smith & Wesson shortly after losing the sight, they don't have it in stock. I'll setup a reminder to call them every month or so to see if they do get it in stock. Like my other guns I've modified or taken to a gunsmith to modify I'll keep all the factory parts.

I had a Volquartsen extractor put in a few months ago to try to make the Model 41 PC more ammo friendly. Didn't help. It'll shoot Federal AutoMatch and CCI Standard Velocity just fine so I'll stick with those.

After about 200 rounds or so it will get dirty and I'll start to get occasional FTEs. I'm thinking this is normal since my Buck Mark will get FTEs after 200 rounds or so as well. My wife's S&W M&P22 Compact has never jammed. It went thru about 400 rounds one day with flying colors.

Thanks to the info provided by 03Fatboy I ordered 2 of these sights from EKW Arms last night and they shipped out today via USPS.
