Hi,
I posted this elsewhere but haven't got an answer.

I have a 1990's 5.5 HB Model 41 that I have been shooting in a league. Runs fine but the trigger pull is a bit light. Rules say 2 pounds, mine was measuring 1.5 to 1.75 with a Wheeler spring gauge. Tonight, I tried adjusting it but I can only get 1 7/8 to 2 pounds pull. That with the adjusting lever in the furthest rearward position. Any thoughts on what to try next? Possibly the springs have weakened with use/age? I am thinking about replacing the springs, trigger spring, sear spring, hammer spring? Anyone have experience with this? Any thoughts? Other ideas?

I did check the Wheeler gauge accuracy with weights and it seems to be 3 oz light. Also tried a Lyman digital and that reads heavy. With 2 pounds of weight hung on the trigger, it mostly snaps when I lift it gently. I want something that will be legal at a match where they check trigger weight. Am I right in changing out the springs for new OEM ones?

I had originally posted this on RFC. I am putting my update here, as well, in case anyone else should have a similar problem.

Update: I did replace the old springs with new. Trigger pull weight did increase, not as much as I expected, but enough that it will lift 2 pounds without tripping. Trigger pull is now about 2 lb 4 oz. Fired a couple boxes at the range to check it out and it seems fine. Trigger pull weight has not changed after firing. It should be OK in any competition that checks trigger pull. Springs replaced were the mainspring, trigger spring, trigger bar spring and sear spring. New, OEM.
For those interested in the details, I did get a Lyman digital gauge and it is off in the other direction. One gauge is low, the other high, compared to my makeshift weights and postal scale. I did not find a vise to be necessary, just a little care pulling the gauge slowly.
To replace the springs, the entire frame has to be disassembled. So I just replaced them all in one go. The old mainspring was about 1/16" shorter than the new one. The other springs are not coils so it is hard to tell if they are weaker or not.
For anyone taking one apart, "mattsgaragediy" on Youtube has a video taking one down completely and reassembling it. He is a little rough and ready, using a drill bit for a pin punch, but he gets it done. "NRA Firearms Assembly 4" has the Model 41 but they don't go further than field stripping it.
Looking at the hammer and sear notches, I am confident they have not been messed with, looked like the first time the gun was apart.
My first time inside one of these. The video was quite helpful. Some things are not immediately obvious, but they are relatively straight forward to work on, if you do it in the right sequence. Also recommend a baking pan on the workbench with a towel in it. I didn't loose anything to the floor.

Thanks for the information. Haven't yet had to take my 41 apart, but may sometime in the future. Good idea to replace all the springs while you're into it.
