Thanks for posting the extra pictures.
The res is not that high and hard to see details.

The 2 magazines are also correct type for your model 46.

I have no idea of US value something I have not started looking at.

It is clear to me now that the box and parts list are additions, added at some point to make the package look more inviting. . I see this on gunbroker and other sites all the time.
The parts list is, on first glance is the same as others I have seen that came with the first lot of Model 46s.
Looking again at the box I can see it is a later model 41 box that came out after the model 46 was discontinued. This box type had "Bangor Punta" added to the lid, they took over S&W in 64 however the name was added to the lid a few years later.
Regardless, still all in all a great package. If I seen this lot in Australia I would jump on it.

Can you show a picture of the inside of the box showing the insert. A picture of the lid would be good as well just to see if I have it right.
Cheers.

The box has no insert just the paper work, and the cover is taped up on the sides. I noticed the inside cover has a stamped date on it of 1979.

currently there is one on GB and he has his request of $1200.00 accepted already. His has the Plastic grips and has no other options then one mag with it. Appears to be in decent condition also.

I have not been on the forum in quite a while. I have a opportunity to buy a S&W Model 46, serial number range, 73,000. This one has the lightweight 5 inch field barrel with partridge front sight which appears to be milled.

Overall condition is used with some wear marks on the left side of slide and barrel and a little light surface rust near the top of the barrel.

Plastic grips which is correct on the model 46. I was told only 1,000 were made with the lightweight field barrel in the model 46.

The price is right just have to convince my lovely wife that this could be my next year anniversary present....

Keep working on her as you really will enjoy this gun if you get it. Just don't use any high powered ammo in it ever. Nothing but CCI SV only and it will last for virtually forever.

Barrie I know that Wolf Springs makes recoil springs in different weights for the model 41 which I would believe applies to the model 46 as well. If using a heavier spring it seems that would allow the use of hi velocity ammo without long term damage to the frame and contact area.

The standard spring is 7.5lb, the spring kits range from 6.5lb to 8lb. I would suggest that an 8lb spring will not be enough to stop long term damage. Besides, the model 41 and 46 were designed for standard velocity, and not build for constant use with high velocity.

We have little detail and no pictures of this model 46. The serial number tells us its from 1965 or 66. It also tells us it should have a round cut slide. However I have seen a few instances of square cut barrel and slides placed on newer frames. The square cut will no doubt crack with high velocity regardless of spring size.

I would not use high powered ammo in either a M41 or M46 as it may and eventually probably will crack the slide no matter which one it is . Thats my opinion on this 40gr. CCI SV is enough and will keep the gun in good shape for many years to come. Why take the chance of damaging it?

I like to thank model3sw He sold me a nice pair of factory grips for my 46 now she is all original.

It was my privilege to help out. Sell off the wood grips, the extra barrels and parts and you might end up owning a very nice 46 for free.

It looks good !
