S&W model 51

I've been looking at a Model 51 22mag. Looking for opinions and concerns of these J frame 22mags. No box or paperwork. I'm not good at rating them,but I would say above 90%. Owner is asking $850. I thought that might by high,but just not familiar with these. Any comments are welcome.

I've been wanting to add a M51 for quite some time. Every time I find one they're "too expensive." Ninety percent condition means quite a lot of blue loss to me but those condition assessments are very subjective so maybe it's better than that? A "nice one," and I won't define nice, would be at least $850 where I shop. I passed on several at that price but maybe four or five years ago now. The last one or two I passed on that were "too expensive" were $1k+. Good luck, and pictures if you get it please.

I saw one yesterday that I thought was pretty rough. The guy was asking $650. The one I have (SN: 110902) has the original diamond magnas. I stay away from the % method. As Jeff said, very subjective, but If I had to use it I would say 99%. Unfortunately I don't remember what I paid for it, so I'm no help there. I love all my kit guns.

I still have the one I bought new in 1970 and love it still. It wasn't cheap back then either.

If you want one, get it when you can. They don't come up very often.

That's how I got mine and I am not sorry.

$850 sounds decent for price. I had a nickel one and never used it so it went down the road for north of $1k.

Get one of these, it will be way more than $1K. I am very lucky to have one.
