Saw this pistol at my local store. Looks in very good shape. I'm wondering if it was some sort of special model or just one that was modified by an owner. Comes with 7 magazines.

Looks pretty standard other than the grips. What are they asking?

If it's a thousand bucks or less grab it. The magazines have a lot of value in them. Plus the barrel weight.

They only shoot .38 wadcutter target loads. If you don't reload many manufacturers produce them but they get get pricey.

I'm not really looking for anything. And this does not fill any need which I might have. I was mainly posting it to generate a little discussion and maybe see if it interested anyone else.

The serial number is a bit...eye-catching.

Gun appears stock and original to me except for the grips as mentioned, those are very common Pachmayr.

The serial number also appears to be very normal for a late production 52-2.

I am fortunate to own one of the very latest they made, it has a TZT-00xx serial number and was likely made in 1992. I had it out a week ago.

What's the price on this one?

The extra mags are a big bonus. Last I saw, they were running anywhere from $200-300 each.

I'm also curious as to the asking price. ;)

Buy it, heck if nothing else for the mags. Sell five separately and the either keep the pistol or sell it. Either way if handled right the pistol may end up as a freebie. Sell the mags for $225 each and the weight for $150, that comes to $1275. How much was the asking?

The advantages to the Model 52 should be obvious. Very accurate blended with very low recoil. It is a pure target pistol. It might do only one thing, but it does that extremely well.

I think he's telling you $225 is too high a price for the mags.

The way his statement was worded did not read like that. I still see dealers here asking for more than that for primers. Doubt they are selling, but they are asking. You can always come down in a negotiation, difficult to go up...

I guess I wasn't entirely clear. My position is that the market for original 52 magazines (much like the market for small pistol primers) has gone looney tunes in the past many years.

Everyone is free to have their own thoughts and opinions, my position is that we are a part of the market and we have a big influence on the market. I believe that if we are handloaders and we offer to sell our primers for $125 a thousand or we choose to pay $125 per thousand then we are casting our vote that says "SP Primers should be priced at $125 per thousand" and like many of you other handloaders, I hate that price and wish it were not so. And when I MOST wish it were not so is when I help yet another new handloader get started in this rewarding hobby.

Thus -- to be clear

I think it's a horrendous idea and does a disservice to any/all who gather here to enjoy these fine guns to suggest to someone who may very well have no idea whatsoever of the market... to go out and buy a package deal and then offer the magazines at tip-top or beyond market price, perpetuating this over $200 per magazine lunacy.

As I said at the top, we are all free to have our own opinions and this one is mine. If you read it and think I'm off base or it irks you then I suggest you read it again and be certain to associate me with your feelings, because I assure you that if you think it makes great sense to take a random guy who is otherwise uninvolved in the Model 52 marketplace and use him as a tool to perpetuate ridiculous market prices, the feeling is MUTUAL.

The man has a chance to buy a nice pistol and mags. If the price is reasonable. While he is at it, is possible to recoup part of his expenditure by selling the extra magazines. If he only has one 52, does he need 7 magazines? I would pick the best two and sell the rest. At the worst he will off set the cost of the 52, at the best he may recover the entire out lay for the gun.

Sevens at no time did I associate you with my statements until you jumped on my statement about selling the mags. I respect your knowledge of the 52's. I would suggest we stop wasting space here. Just email me to continue this, I can be reached that way for further discussion.

Well I am supposed to pick the gun up tomorrow, they have limited hours and I work. I have a 52-1 that I enjoy. I always wanted a 52-2.

I could have bought many brand new over the years but I settled for a older used one when I had the chance at a good deal. This appears to be another. Turns out the dealer is twenty minutes from my house. I am a shooter and collector of guns. No safe queens here.

This is for me as a soon to be retirement gift. Oh and I already have a spare pair of grips. When I get it I will clean it up and post a picture.
