previous owner filed the front sight down.

Mine is not pinned, its integral to the barrel

A taller front sight will lower the POI. A rear sight is the opposite, move it in direction you want the POI to go.

If it is already shooting low, a taller front sight will make it shoot even lower. Perhaps try different ammo to see if that improves the point of impact.

If he filed it, sounds like he was trying to get it to shoot higher. Mine is pretty low and it is factory.

Jimmy, take a look at other 581s and 681s before you conclude that the sight has been filed down.Everyone unfamiliar with these guns thinks that. I did so.
