A batch of these have surfaced on the used market lately and supposed to be police trade ins. Anyone know what agency that they may have come from?? I picked one up last night in an online auction. The seller says that they are not PD marked and doesn't know anything about their history.

Thanks!!!

I doubt they were NYPD as officers there were not issued service revolvers but instead purchased them from an approved list, however, I too may be wrong.

From what I've read from NYPD officers on the Forum, the 3" model 65s would not have been on the approved list; the 3" model DAO model 64 in .38 Special would have been.

Ohio Dept. of Corrections have been switching over to the Glock 22, and from what I been told appox 1600 give or take will be available.

A couple of stores near Toledo have quite a few or had recently.

Where ever they came from........... they are one of the best .357 "carry packages" you can buy! Relatively small, modest weight, controllable, ergonomic, and probably (arguably) the smallest .357 that one can shoot repeatedly well. If you can get one at a decent price, jump on it!!

I bought mine several years ago from one of the dealers that advertised in Shotgun News. They too were Police trad-ins. I wasn't expecting much and asked for a "nice one" when I was paying for it and arranging the shipping to my dealer. When it came in it had some grime from where it had been sitting unused for a while and once it cleaned up, what a beauty. I LOVE that wheelgun. The best thing is the trigger. It wasn't shot much, but the cop that carried or owned it must've had some work done on it or done it himself as the trigger is the best on any handgun I own. Just a joy to touch off a cylinder full.

I put Tyler T-grips on the factory stocks and it feels perfect. I know a LOT of people clamor about looking for and wanting a m66 3 inch. I'd like to have one too, but I think it would be hard to top the m65 3 inch. I have thought about bobbing the hammer from time to time, but don't think I'll alter it. If I carried it, I might have it done though and can see where this is a desirable option to some owners.

The only negative that I can think of about these m65 3 inch S&W's is the lack of holsters available for them. They are out there, but they are not easily found. Good thing is that there are lots of talented holster guys out there that can make one for you. That's my next holster when I get the money saved.

Mine is also NOT MARKED with any kind of ID marks.
Get IT!!

Mine is not one of the police trade-ins. I've since put on Hogue Bantam boot grips for carry.
What's not to love?

I'd be interested to know where you guys are finding these as well....ive had good luck with a model 10 and a 64 police trade in, both great guns.

Thanks

Do you know what stores in Toledo?

In the mythical "If you could only have one hand(?)gun." scenario, my clear choice would be either my tuned three inch 65 or 13. Even above my vintage, recessed and pinned, nickel plated, 2 1/2 inch model 19.
