Since getting this 66-1 a few years ago, I've really been watching out for a P&R 19 to go w/ it.
I get a kick out of the "hunt".
Love the K frame snubs, dang.

The only thing mint about that gun are the stocks that it's wearing in the picture. But I love it just the same Its never even seen the inside of a safe.

I just recently picked up a 66 no dash, P&R, 4 inch, for $850 at a LGS. I just "had to have it." It is exactly like the model of the first pistol I ever owned when I was a young police officer. I traded it in on a semi-auto and always wished I hadn't, but at the time, I had kids and collecting guns wasn't an option. Since purchasing it, I have been chomping at the bit to take it to the range.
The same LGS owner also has a 66-1 snubby that I have been considering purchasing, but after reading all of these posts, I am going to call him and pick it up. Thanks for swaying my decision. He is asking $850 for it, but told me he would sell it to me for $800. Does that sound like a fair price? It is pinned, but not recessed.

Glad you had a chance to pick up the model that you carried.

I'm certainly no expert but if it's not recessed, but pinned it could very well be a transitional gun. A check of the serial number could date it and cross reference the design change. Others certainly know more than I on that subject.

From what I have seen that price is not out of line if it's in good shape. I think it also has a lot to do with location. As others have said before - sometimes you just have to pay a little more to get what you want.

I've certainly regretted missing a few nice revolvers because I didn't want to pay the $50-$100 I thought was over priced, but on select revolvers it's probably worth it in the long run. A very nice model 13-2 comes to mind that I missed out on a few years back.

I've been looking for a 19/66 snubby, it's hard to believe how expensive they are getting. I am in the market though if anybody has one for sale, I'd prefer P&R'd obviously.

Paul I haven't bought a short barreled 66-1 in a while but I'll tell you a good story about buying them back in the day.
When the police changed over from revolvers to autos in the 80's you could go to Kiesler Police Supply in Jeffersonville Indiana and buy your pick for $250 apiece.
Mostly 4 inch guns but the occasional 2 1/2 inch could be had.
AND if you knew the owner, some where NIB...

Model 66 snub

I purchased new a Model 66 with 2.5" barrel back in 1991 and still have it. Mine wears ebony grips. A great gun though not as easy for me to carry concealed as Model 10 or 64 with 2" barrel.

Obtained from friend - had been somewhat neglected. He had run through a dishwasher because it was "dirty". Felt it best to remove from his custody.
My gunsmith smoothed trigger / bead blasted but screws left shiny / sides of hammer & trigger polished as well. Wilson combat spring set and action job. Still trying to find the "perfect" grip. Rubber boot grips shaped & feel the best - but like the look of wood. The Hogue boot grips are too thick at the base. I understand the Craig Spegal Boot grip would be the answer or perhaps Eagle Secret Service grips.

You guys don't know how lucky you are!

I bought a new 2.1/2" Model 66 (Serial No. 6K79605) back in 1970-something (seems forever ago!). It was an early model with the recessed chambers.

I kept the gun standard apart from custom grips and some work on the trigger. It was a beautiful gun and definitely my favourite revolver.

I would never have sold it, but I live in the gun-paranoid UK. Sadly there was the Dunblane school massacre in 1996 and the UK government responded in 1997 by banning handgun ownership.

My Model 66 was confiscated and all I have left is the S&W blue cardboard box :-(

Much better investment than money in the bank. I'll bet if you figured the ROI with that piece you would have wished you had talked the owner into more .

A few years ago my LGS had just gotten in a 4" and 2 1/2" no dash, I told him I'd be back to take both. The 4" was LNIB and the 2 1/2" was worn and wearing rubbers. When I went back someone had sold the 2 1/2". I was pretty bummed and the owner felt bad too. I couple weeks later he called to tell me that he'd gotten another 66 (-1) 2 1/2" in. I went to check it out and it was LNIB. To show his regret for not tagging the first one, he sold it to me for the same price as the 2 1/2" beater!
Always nice to have good rapport with your LGS!

I don't know if my 66 quals as a "snubby." It is a 3 inch Lew Horton Special that I picked up 25 or 30 years ago. I still love it! Mine sports Pachmayr grips, because I like the way they feel, and it keeps my original factory grips pristine. Congratulations on your find!

Well, I didn't just get mine, I was issued it about 40 years ago, and when my department switched to Glocks, we were allowed to buy our issued revolvers for what Glock was offering in trade in...which I think was about $160 each. I bought my snubby that I carried working plainclothes as well as my 4" that I was issued when I first started in uniform. Still have both of them, and they would be the last guns I would ever sell. They presented me with my Glock when I retired, so I have all the sidearms that I was issued during my police years. Also still have most of the guns that I carried off duty, although I traded around a fair ammount over my 22 years, but whatever I had when I retired, I have kept.

Here is my snubby, a 66 no dash. I know the stocks are worn, but I don't think I'll ever replace them, as that is all honest wear, that I put on the gun. It was issued brand new to me and I still have the boxes for both guns:



This is the holster that I most used when carrying this gun. I believe that is a Bianchi "Shadow". A very effective and simple holster that keeps a pretty low profile. Below is the gun without holster:



I have thousands of rounds through this little gun. I always used an aluminum Tyler T Grip, but I temporarily loaned it to one of my other favorite K frames...
