Hi, you're definitely in the right section. The -2 came out in 1982, yours is probably from '84-'85 going by the serial number.
In the triple alpha listing I find ADE in 83, and AEC and AEF in 84, but not an AED...So I'd guess 83 or 84.
Let me contribute a picture.......My 66-2 with a set of Nill-Griffe grips.

You can call S&W customer service and they will tell you for sure when it shipped. At least they've done that whenever I've called.

Is that the same maker who makes the very fragile HK P7 grips? Look great!
That is them....along with many other grips for all types of guns.

Mine isn't handy at the moment but a great and inexpensive reference is the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson (SCSW). All your s/n info is there plus there's hundreds of pictures, price info and hours of reading.

My 3" M66-2 AHL08XX was made for distrbutor Ashland in 1986. I bought it new.

It runs .38 specials like it was made for it.
It handles .357s ok, but to me they are less......how you say...pleasant.
Give me a 6" .357 and I'm a happy camper. I have 3 of those......

This guy belong to my dad. I used it in the police academy in 1988. I almost got Top Gun with it but I fricken jerked the trigger from hell and got beat.
