S&W Model 915 build date

I just bought a Model 915 for $350. It has less than 20 rounds through it. I got the box of 20 Remington that was bought with gun that still had 3 rounds in it. I got box, paper work, and all. I offered more but the gentleman that I bought the gun from wouldn't take more. I know nothing about the 915 but know this one will shoot as I put 200 reloads through it. I would like to know when it was made. VYL64XX the number is very light.

The Model 915 was manufactured from 1992-94 according to the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson.

The SPEC ORD number on the box is a Julian date.

One of the most underrated pistols S&W ever made. All you need and nothing you don't. It's only weakness is It's finish but they are an absolute joy to shoot.

I bought one new in 1993 and other than a few cleanings it's still putting rounds down range on paper accurately with a light trigger. I will say that the finish is nothing special, but it's a true and reliable pistol.

It's based on the more polished 5904 which was used in the 90's by the LAPD, NYPD, etc.

I carry a 915, so far the finish isn't showing any holster wear. Haven't had a single malfunction or ftf yet, I am very happy with it.
