Hello and thank you for having me! I just acquired a S&W Model 27-4 N frame revolver. Now me having medium sized hands the "Magna" grips with adapter fills out my hands the best on the N frames specifically.

The last time I had one of these N frames, the "Tyler T Grips" was the ONLY option and seemed to do the job well. However, after a little research I have read that "BK Grips" as well as "Robertson Trading Post" are now producing products similar to the originals?

So, after deciding to purchase one for myself and doing a little looking it seems that these grip adapters are not so easily obtained anymore, especially the Tyler T grips. It also would seem that the N frame variant is either VERY popular, or it's the opposite and isn't produced often as I see all the other frames sizes listed much more than the N frame variant.

I have been on the hunt for 3 days now and I was looking for a brushed aluminum version of the OG type but it would appear I may have to accept whatever is offered as there isn't much on the table. So may I ask how the current situation is with this product and what experience folks have with the N frame adapters or if I may have to alter one? I understand that the BK grips is polymer and fits different slightly?

I have been unsuccessful in trying to reach Tyler T grips at all, calls, emails, or texts. Robertson Trading doesn't even list an option for the N frames, only J, K, & L. Finally BK grips had #3 available for the N frame but I wanted to call and speak to them first (this was on a Sunday and I planned to call first thing Monday) as I had a question about the fit/mount but all #3 were sold in between yesterday and today.

So, if anyone has any advice, tips, or knowledge of what would be best for my situation? Many of the makers state on their pages to specifically NOT call or email asking when they may be in stock so how long does one usually have to wit for an item like this?

Sorry for the long post!! I'm in the market for one but thought it could be more helpful for others to make a thread and have an update on this matter rather than just making a WTB post in the classifieds.

THANK YOU

Well I can say this. You can print out order form and mail it with a ck to Tyler. Then wait. They will cash your ck immediately. They cashed my ck 51 weeks ago for N frame in bronze. I’m still waiting

The Robertson for the K&L fits an N about as well as it does a K in my experience. I haven’t tried a BK but I have both Tyler’s and Robertson’s, I’ll not be doing the Tyler waiting game for what I’d consider maybe marginally better quality when the Robertson is available instantly.

Comparing the date you joined the forum to the date of your first
post, I'd guess you have a wee bit of patience.

Don't "settle for" anything. Be patient and get what you want.

S&W also sold a grip adapter in small, medium, and large. It is
ribbed on the front and does not have a finger groove--feels like
hard rubber. Might be a bit hard to find on the secondary market.

There is also the that an aftermarket set of target grips/stocks work for you. All 3 of my N frames wear Herrett Targets. Bigger than Magna and smaller than N Targets. Grip adapters did not work for me. Bob

A #1 Tyler (for a J frame) will go onto an N and stay there. Whether it will fit your hand is another story. Myself, I am not that happy with Tylers on an N, or Magnas on an N, or even service grips on an N. Pachmayr Presentation Small (SN-S) for me.

YMMV, unless your hand is almost exactly the same as mine.

Tyler is run in a slip-shod, haphazard manner. The best thing you can say is "I think they mean well."

For years it's been one excuse after another.
1. They got behind because of material shortages.
2. The main guy could only work part-time and got behind.
3. The main guy got Covid and couldn't work for a long time.

Last I looked, their website said they answer e-mails and texts, but they never did for any of mine. If they did answer you, all you would get is the latest excuse.

My last order took about a year between the time they cashed the money order and when the product finally showed up in my mailbox. So if you absolutely must have Tylers and if you don't want to pay double the price on e-bay, keep this long wait in mind.

I sent Tyler a check last May and they cashed it immediately. I sent an email in July and no response. Don't waste your time or money.

If you want aluminum get a Robertson Trading Post off epay. They fit okay and ship right away (I have J and K/L tgrips from them).

If you want black I really like the BK grip adapters. They fit better and hold tight with two sets of brass tabs. My orders have always shipped fast no matter if they said "in stock" or not. I have both J and K models and like the fit.

If you want a Tyler T grip, buy it on the secondary market. I have grip adapters by Tyler, Mershon, Pachmyar, S&W (both types), and B K. I swap them on my N frames until I find something that feels right.

Everything except B K I buy secondary. B K, I order direct. Never a problem.

The BK are great grip adapters but as noted just in black. The ONLY reason I would order Tyler now is to get brushed aluminum or bronze. The last time I ordered about 5 years ago it took about 8 months. They are no longer marked with the Tyler T logo or any markings. The black finish is a thick powder coat looking product not evenly applied.

Steer clear of Tyler is my advice. I paid for an N-frame adapter back in 2020 and never received it. I like BKs and I’ve had success with their K frame adapter fitting well to N-frames.

Thanks for all the replies everyone! I admit I shouldn't be upset not finding one right away. Surprisingly BK grips has already restocked his sight and I even found a vintage Tyler T grip in satin black but sadly with a quite high price tag.

I did want to get a feel for the situation with the Tyler T grips and if they were even worth purchasing in 2025 so I do really appreciate everyone's input though! I think I'm most likely going to order a BK and possibly also put a money order in the mail if I see enough good reasons to.

Thanks!

The ONLY thing that makes a Tyler more desirable is the fact you can’t get them. There sure isn’t anything special about them.

Why is it that Robertsons says the same adapter fits K frame round or square. But Tyler has 2 different adapters. #3 and #3R

The BK Grips web site only shows what's in stock. If it's in stock you can see it and order it, and when paid for it is removed from inventory (so nobody else can see it or buy it) and mailed the next business day. When the last one of a certain size is sold then that size disappears from the web site. Until stock is replenished.

There are no back orders on BK Grips. New adapters are put into inventory and appear on the web site as soon as they're finished. But demand has been crazy - there have been days when 12 new adapters were added to inventory and all were sold within 24 hours. If February keeps going at its current rate it will be busiest month in BK Grips history - and February is usually one of the slowest months.

One of the pleasures you get running your own business!

Keep going!

Kevin

As for Tyler: After patiently waiting for 22months with no delivery, no response to phone calls, texts and emails including a request for a refund, I am filing a complaint for mail fraud with the US Postal Inspectors.

I’ve thought about doing this. Keep us posted as to how this goes. I’m VERY interested in results.
