Looking for opinions from folks who have S&W's and Glocks. After long hiatus from shooting in general I'm going to start shooting IDPA. I have A custom Series 70 45ACP I shot IPSC with but the IDPA matches I've watched seem to lean more towards high cap autos. I ain't a "spring chicken" any more but I do miss competition. I'm trying to decide between S&W and Glock. Handled and shot both and just shooting them doesn't seem to be much difference. Anyone shot both in competition and if so what were the good and bad points. Appreciate any info. Wife just got a new PC so cost under 1K isn't going to cause divorce.

Just shoot your 1911 in the CDP division for now. Then observe what other shooters are using. I shoot an M&P but don't shoot IDPA any more (USPSA only). The CDP division has a lot of "non spring chickens".

A Glock is inexpensive and common. Run a couple competitions with it, and see if it floats your boat. If it doesn't, you can sell it without losing $$$. In the meantime, as already recommended, watch what/how the other guys are running. Keep it simple, don't over think it, and adapt… and most of all, have fun.
