S&W Pre Model 34, k22/32 Kit gun

22/32

As far as how J frame grips fit the new I frame, here's my pre model 34 in nickel. It came with a mid eighties set of j frame square butt grips installed, but the grips from my '69 model 60 fit pretty well. In truth, the original owner of the model 60 had sanded the grips a little so I think that's why they don't fit as well at the bottom. The only problem I've had with other wood j frame grips is the solid grip pin is a slightly larger diameter than the new style roll pin and the grips don't always want to fully seat against the frame. I hope this helps.

Not to highjack this thread ;) but was it common for a round butt gun to have square butt stocks? I just acquired a Model 36 with very nice square butt target stocks affixed to a round butt 36. Any issues with durability with shooting this as is wrt the stocks?

Red box?

This one was right at 900 4 years ago. It came from Cabelas of all places and the box does match. I had to call them to get that little tidbit of information, I don't know why they leave stuff like that out of their descriptions. Serial number 288X.

Would the red box be the correct box for a 1955 Ship date gun?
if not could someone post a pic or give a description of the correct box?

Thanks

Factory target J frame stocks were made to fit both round and square frames. I wouldn't say common, but definitely not a rare combination.

Interesting how prices vary by region. I've gone to several larger area gun shows over the last couple of years and keep an eye out for J and I frame kit guns. In East Tn I frame are nonexistent and J frame are scarce. A J frame 34-1 will range up to $1,200 depending on condition and a 2" in the box can go up to $1,600 asking price. I bought a finish compromised 63 no dash for $700 a year ago that someone attempted to polish. $700 was a bargain around here and fortunately the finish was easy to restore with scotchbright pads.

I'd say $900 was a good price. Congrats!
