In 2013 I purchased an older M29-2 from 1964-65 with a S253505 Serial #. It came with this presentation case. I doubt it's an actual S&W but I don't know for sure. It's no where near as nice as my other official cases. Anyone have any ideas? It's wood but not like the good ones, there's like a wood grain wallpaper covering on it

You guys got me interested. I have quite a few presentation wood cases including two first year model 57 with solid wood and velour interior. Have never seen a box with wood wall paper .Ever.

Well AC, It's wood grain contact paper or something like that. I'm guessing, got no clue. I couldn't think of the word at the time. lol I don't know if it was for a Model 57 because it came with a Model 29-2 which had a 6.5" bbl. As far as I knew the 57 didn't.
UPDATE!: I was WRONG!!!!! The 57 did come in 6.5". Just looked it up. There I go lying through my teeth again.
Maybe the person that I traded it with has more info and will post it here if he sees this.

One of those experts chimed in while I was trying to put my thoughts down. That is a beautiful revolver with case.

I’m learning but my knowledge might fill a thimble. This is information was provided to me by Jcelect several years ago when he saw I was as crazy about cases as revolvers. There are some people on here that have forgotten more than I’ll ever know and maybe they will add something. Boxes and presentation cases don’t interest some but does others. Information is scattered by years and locations throughout the forum. I saw a post this morning with a question about a case. I wonder if boxes, cases, and tools had a location, would it be worth it?

Another problem I have is every time I find a rare box, I think it deserves the correct gun. I picked up a 1958/59 transition case a couple of weeks ago! This is a great, very expensive addiction!

This is what the box looked like when I received back in 2013. I took the grips off and put the proper target stocks on. No tools or paper work came with it.

The Model 57 was only manufactured with a 4, 6, and 8 3/8-inch barrel; no 6 1/2-inch. The presentation cases with paper covering were most likely a failed experiment, but rather than throw them away, S&W issued them with a few Model 57s.

Ok, I got that from Wikipedia. I was lazy, My fault. But the M-29 with a 6.5 did fit in there nicely.
