I have a Trr8 revolver and it’s awesome. Very accurate and lightweight for its size. My Kramer OWB holster should be here soon! I’m going to carry it often

Accuracy vs 627 pro, recoil of full load .357 mag, reliably etc.

I’ve got a 627 pro, a 629 performance center 44 mag, 686 plus, several model 66,s, a 65, and a 19.

I really don’t see much difference in trigger pull of any of them as they all have great triggers IMO.

I’d be interested in opinions on users of other S&W pistols in comparison.
I love the rails so trr8 isn’t what I’m after with it’s removal rail,but interested in you revolver guy’s opinion.

Haven’t shot one in comparison to the above so end user experience is a plus.

I am not too sure who "They" are that claim there is nothing here on the R8

If you have been searching for a 627 R8, that could be part of your problem

The revolver is a Model 327 M&P R8

The Model 327 TRR8 that Shoebox1.1 and I both have is virtually a twin of the Model 327 M&P R8.

I know that you already know this . . . The major difference between the two is that the Model 327 M&P R8 has the lower equipment rail as part of the barrel shroud while the Model 327 TRR8 has a removable lower equipment rail. Other than that and the ejector rod window on the revolvers right side they are almost identical

I own and shoot many variations of the Model 27/327/627 family of revolvers in most all barrel lengths (both 6 & 8 shooters) but at this time I only shoot the 2 1/2" versions of the Model 19/66 family even though I own several 4" versions

Both Model 327 revolvers (R8 & TRR8) have a removable upper equipment rail

Both revolvers have frames made of Scandium alloy instead of steel. This saves 9+ ounces in weight over a comparable 5" Model 627

Both revolvers have a multi piece tensioned barrel that is very similar to the Famous Dan Wesson multi piece tensioned barrel design.

While individual examples of any model vary, (as a group) this tensioned barrel design gives the Model 327 TRR8 and the Model 327 M&P R8 a noticeable accuracy advantage over the Model 627 revolvers and their one piece barrel design

In fact I will say that my 5" Model 327 revolvers (I currently have 2 styles) are probably the most accurate Smith & Wesson revolvers I have ever shot. Being snubbies, my 2" and 2 1/2" Model 327s are harder to compare

With the Scandium alloy frame these two (R8 & TRR8) revolvers weigh in just about the same as a 4" Model 19 or 66. So you are probably already used to the recoil impulse of firearms in this weight category. The longer 5" barrel does mitigate the recoil better than the 4" K-frames, but not by so much that it is obviously noticeable

While I have many revolvers in multiple calibers, it is my Model 327 TRR8 that has had the most range time over the past few years

I like my 327 a lot. X frame Hogue Gripper Monogrips are a must for me. S&W 1X red dot is a natural for this revolver. It makes quarter size groups at 50 feet with most ammo and has never let me down. Has HH delete. I use Speed Bees clips. If I need to reach out much beyond 100 feet, I get a rifle.

I would not recommend mounting the rails on a TRR8 or an R8. They scratch up the shroud when you remove them(1) and look nasty after. (2) as an added bonus, using the top rail and adding an optic heavier than 6oz will unscrew the barrel from the frame. It happened to me twice! The bottom rail to me is quite pointless as the controls to any light are too far away to use the same trigger hand to use and makes you use your support hand to activate them..
The firearm is to short to mount a bipod also.

When running an optic, I have used the rear mounts on the guns. Giving better eye relief. And particularly on my R8, has stopped unscrewing the barrel.

I've gone back and forth on a burris FF3, vortex Venom and a Utg microdot that split the glass shooting heavy magnums. I ended up liking the weight of the vortex SparcII (6oz.) Mounted towards the rear. At a total gun weight of 45oz. , it keeps it right where I like to shoot my N frames. Between 45 - 49 oz. And good for magnums to short colts, all depending on what I'm doing.
