I hope this post is not inappropriate! I have been a member for quite a while but have not posted. I am starting to downsize my gun collection. My son will get some but not all! So, I have an S&W 14-3 and an S&W 17-6, both of which I bought new, but I hardly ever use any more. Can somone suggest reasonable asking prices for these? Both have been used very little. Are the prices on Gun Broker realistic?
Thanks, Peter.

I'd give him $500 for the pair.

Condition, boxes, accessories, etc. play a great part in the value. Location often does, too. Post some pics and I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than I will give you a good range.

"Are Gunbroker prices realistic?"

Depends on which guns you're talking about. There are hundreds listed with ambitious prices that never get any bids.

The selling price at the end of a successful auction is indicative of what some are willing to pay. As I said, deprnds on what gun and who is looking. I've likely overpaid by 20 bucks or so but it's always something I looked at as a "bird in the hand" and didn't want to take a chance I might not see another as nice for another 6 months and have the price be $50 more.

Some GB prices are comic relief ! Like the old joke about the used car salesman that wanted a million dollars for his VW bug - said he only had to sell one to make his career . . . .

Thank you gentlemen! I did not post pictures as I did not want people to think I was starting an auction which is against the rules! As mentioned, I bought them new, so I have the boxes and manuals. Very slight cylinder marks showing a little use but not excessive. The GunBroker comments are good as I just looked and have not been tracking the auctions. In addition, one cannot see what items previously sold for so there is no history or track record.
I guess $450-500 is as good a place as any to start. Thanks Farmer!
Peter.

Search on Gunbroker for the particular gun you are interested in but restrict the search to guns actually sold over the past week or so. This is the only meaningful way to use GB as a guide.

You CAN view completed auctions on GB, IF you have registered, which is free.

Go to [Smart Search]
Show Only: - select [ENDED within the last 30 days]
Sort By: select [Highest Number of Bids First]

Choosing Highest Number of Bids First will send all of the OVERPRICED items with ZERO bids to the bottom of the list.

This is the method I use ...

Thanks Bekeart! I am registered but have not tried your suggestion. I will try it.
Peter.
