It appears S&W removed all magazines higher than 10 rounds from their web store.

Is this due to MA laws?

Strange thing is that if you look at the M&P page they still list pistols with hi cap mags. Maybe they're in the middle of a store revamp.

I doubt there is any plan to discontinue higher capacity mags, at least I hope not. Maybe S&W decided not to sell them direct to consumers through their website store given they are now illegal in certain areas of the country. Creates a shipping logistics challenge that is better managed by large retailers like Midway, etc.

Still have to question S&W's motives. Appears they are taking the easy road as opposed to challenging the current debate on mag limits.

S&W should definitely explain and/or defend its position to their customers.

It could also be that the high capacity magazines have been removed because S&W cannot provide any inventory to the web store due to the latest buying frenzy. What they have are going out with new firearms and that's it.

I noticed the other day that eBay also does not show anything higher than 10 rd magazines, even from vendor's outside of CA. eBay is a CA based company, and perhaps wants to avoid any possible legal consequences.

Earlier in the year, I did purchase some 12 rd mags for my Gold Cup.

I didn't think ebay ever allowed the sale of any mags over 10 rounds. They only in the last couple years even allowed the sale of any mags.

I sent S&W an email, interested in seeing what the reasoning is. Maybe, they are updating the site handle a release of lots of new magazines to the market. :)

If they are choosing to no longer sell high capacity mags from the web store, it will be interesting to see if they cancel any outstanding backorders.

Well I canceled my backorder through them and if they sell 100% of their normal capacity magazines to online distributors that sell them for less, then I have no problem with that. ;)

indeed if they do it will be interesting to read why.

I called the S&W customer service number and when I selected the extension for magazine's an automated message stated that selection was not a valid one. I than selected the extension for accessories and spoke to a customer rep whom I asked if the high capacity M&P mags can be ordered since they are no longer on the website. He responded that the magazines are not in stock but they can be ordered. Will be interesting to hear the response others in the forum get.

I just spoke with CS at Smith, they told me that they were removed from the site strictly due to the overwhelming number of back orders currently at or above 6-8 months.

He stated that supply is going out and is focusing on new guns and OEM vendors. It almost sounded like supply was on hand but that may of been my interpretation.

I asked if he could share who the vendors were that will be/are receiving them, he started "right now Cabela's, Midway and Browning".

I was asking initially about .40 FS 15rd mags but I think that it turned into a in general discussion on the high cap mags.

In conclusion...BOLO at Cabela's, Midway and Browning!

Sounds good. Did he say Browning or Brownells?

Have you asked S&W about this? I imagine they have a good business reason, and under their current ownership, as opposed to Tompkins, PLC back in the 90s, I do not jump directly to the conclusion that this is some nefarious plot to deprive shooters of their rights. They are not dropping high (standard) capacity pistols. Could it be that all of the production is going to new gun shipments since they are running 24/7 right now, and that there are few extras for store sales? Could it be that retail stores who handle S&W requested that S&W sell to dealers/distributors first until back orders are filled so that the retailer can make a living? Could it be a shipping logistics problem as one poster said? If anyone really cares about this (I am not at all concerned about it - curious maybe - but not concerned), how about asking S&W prior to jumping to a "conspiracy theory." As for those who say S&W "owes you an explanation," I wonder why they owe you an explanation. Are you a member of the Board of Directors or a large shareholder? If not, I doubt S&W owes you anything. If you cannot wait for an explanation, perhaps another, more responsive company (if you can find one) would be happy to answer to you. I understand SIG Sauer or HK are very easy to deal with and quite responsive to "demands" for insider information, willing to sell all sorts of parts, and have excellent customer service. (Dripping with sarcasm)

Good question, I thought he said Browning but now that you bring it up it could have been Brownells. The both sell the mags on their websites. I guess we will have to watch all 4 sites now.

Well, I'm the one that started this thread. I found it odd that S&W removed all standard (high) capacity magazines from their web store. Not sure I'm buying the excuse that its due to high demand. They currently list plenty of 10 round mags that are "out of stock" and have been for some time. I went to the website to verify a part # for a particular mag. All M&P15 mags are gone.

My main question was whether removal of high capacity mags from their web store was the result of any newly passed MA gun laws that prohibits them from selling direct to the public.

Don't panic...no conspiracy theories vis-à-vis the 17rd 9mm magazines...what you have to remember is that Joe Gunowner is at the very bottom of the food chain. The Gub'ment and Police are at the top and although many who carry S&W pistols don't carry 9mm, all the factories efforts will first be focused on producing, say, magazines in .40, more pistols, etc. They will eventually catch back up but it's going to take a long time...in the mean time those of us who stocked up before this historical rush ain't sweatin' the small stuff.
