Where is a good place to get some honest feedback on some revolver price values? I am trying to help an older acquaintance out with possibly listing and re-selling several 70-80s time period smith revolvers. Is this something that can be posted on here? Thanks..

Prices can be very subjective. People look at closed auction on the usual site, GB, GunsAmerica, etc. Prices also vary by geographic location and state. Then there is CONDITION. I set up at the Atlanta area gun shows so I know quite a bit about what goes on around here, but that's just around here. Nation wide competition at auction houses can drive prices way up for desirable models. In fact, turning over a group of guns on consignment can work out well, if you don't mind paying a seller's premium

The easiest and most objective way I know of is to go on GunBroker, click on the word ADVANCED just to the right of the SEARCH button, then select the COMPLETED AUCTIONS tab, type in the revolver's model number (for example 66-1 or 29-3) and click SEARCH. If it is an non-model marked then use the name (for example Combat Magnum or Military & Police)

This does require that you create a GunBroker account, if you don't already have one.

BUT, you get real, up to date, actual pricing information on what the gun in question has recently sold for.

While the Gunbroker advice does work, please understand that you will be getting information doing these searches that will very likely -NOT- give you tangible numbers that you or your friend can or should expect.

The best prices on Gunbroker come when large, well known and well respected consignment sellers offer the item.

You can use their results and figure maybe 80-85% of those results -IF- the revolvers you have on the block are in similar condition.

Selling on Gunbroker yourself if you do not have an established, high feedback and well respected name and history will be most likely a pretty awful experience for you and your friend.

Post pictures and descriptions here and tell what comes with the guns, boxes, tools, etc. You'll get some values. Might help to know what state you're in.

All I can say is, those are a lot of valuable S&Ws.

David Carroll (Woodlawn Boys on GB) disposed of my collection over the last three years ending about a year or so ago. My involvement consisted of one phone call telling him to "Come get this stuff, and dump it!"--------and depositing checks as they came rolling in.

He did, and he did---and it was a fine job of work!

His commission was 15%---may or may not be the same now. Google David Carroll Guns for his contact.

The descriptions seem accurate, the pictures are horrible. Pricing can be very regional.

My own uneducated guess on the lot, depending on condition, would be 11K or more. I'm probably underestimating, but part of my calculation is based on the revolver market softening recently and folks not having as much disposable income.

Best of luck to the seller!

Check gunbroker and true value.
I’ve been looking at Gunbroker daily for the last 9 months.
Based on that and what things go for on here:

29-2 with cokes $2800 upwards - 3200 condition…
625 ? Don’t know much. $1k?
19-4 !850
27-2 1150
25-5 you sure it’s 1990? Maybe 1100
25-2 950
27-2 6.5?? Just saw one go on GB for 1650 by a very reputable seller.
I’d be interested at $1350
25-2 6.5 I got mine for 830 but that was a deal. Around 900 to 1100 but depend on condition.

From what I have seen in the last 9 months, selling prices can wildly fluctuate depending on condition, quality of photos, how reputable seller is and how much any particular guy is willing to pay for whatever reason.

Those look like a very nice collection.

I’m a total newbie to this stuff, myself but have been avidly in deep checking values and auctions on GB, here in the trade forum and looking at various other fixed price sites and HiBid auctions.

I honestly think your best bet might be to get 8-12 great high res photos of each item and list them here on the Guns for Sale or trade Forum.

Looking again… with all tools and presentation cases looking like they do.. the revolvers are probably in high condition too, although we wouldn’t know from the pics.
My estimates may be a little low.
I’d be interested in one or two myself.
Keep us posted.
Thanks

As mentioned above, if you and your friend can take the time to get a handful of good photos of each and list them on this forums classifieds… we are your target audience. Every item you listed is highly desirable and I believe would sell quickly if priced right.

That’s certainly a bit more hassle, than say taking them to a consignment shop, but you’d pry also maximize your value. Plus we love buying them here: no tax, no CC fees, buying from a fellow enthusiast, etc…

As far as pricing them, when checking closed auctions on GB, keep this in mind too. If a gun sold for $1,000, that means the buyer likely paid (and was willing to pay) more like $1,150 - $1,200 after tax, CC fees, shipping and transfer.

Good luck and thanks for sharing!

That’s the idea I’m trying to facilitate this process but the owner doesn’t live near me and it’s a few hour distance. I actually don’t know him from Joe Blow off the street. We been acquainted recently and this whole collection was presented. It’s likely to be a lengthy process. But actually putting my hands on these to document is going to priority. Thanks!

Getting top dollar for a gun or a whole boatload of guns depends on exactly TWO things----and only TWO things---and both are dependent on the particular gun.

The particular gun is either regular, everyday stuff---or something special. My collection was targets, from the beginning to the end of the " 5 screws". As noted above, David Carroll tended to the disposal of my stuff. Regular, everyday stuff was sold via Gun Broker, and the secret to success there comes from three things: PRESENTATION, PRESENTATION, and PRESENTATION!!! Have a look at his presentation on GB---He's "Woodlawn Boys".

The secret to success with special stuff depends on one thing: Knowing who to sell it to. One almost hilarious example of that with one of my special stuff goes like so: One phone call----might very well have lasted all of 2-3 minutes. The prospect was given a brief description of the gun, and its provenance. His response: "I'll take it if it's not over $10,000." Done and DONE---sight unseen.

Now I said this depends on knowing who to call----it also depends on who's calling-----Joe Blow or one of THE names in this game.

The end!
