I just acquired a 32 S&W Safety Hammerless with a low serial number that is missing the side plate screw. Seems that they are hard to find, however my question to the antique collectors is: are there any other S&W models that would be using the same threaded screw? I find these little guns fascinating as last week I bought the 38 SH that is now soaking in ATF/Acetone with a stuck firing pin. Would appreciate your suggestions.

I believe what you are describing is called a hammer stud nut?? Let me know if it is found in the center of the sideplate or is it the small rear plate screw.

The hammer stud nut is the same on the 32 and 38 Safety, as well as on the 38 Double Action. Jack First has them according to their website.

Side Plate Screw

It is the small screw on the upper right quadrant of the plate. I will contact Jack First to see if they have one for 32 S&W. Is there a difference in size between the screws for the 38 vs 32?

I believe both are the same. It is quite common to find the hammer stud missing, but not so common to need the small screw. Check gunpartscorp.com as well.

Screw

I sent you a pm. I have the screw. You won't find a screw that fits in any hardware store. I also saw in the gunsmithing section that you have a problem with the firing pin. I have them if you need one. I don't charge for most parts for members.
