I have a shooter-grade 27-2 with some fairly extensive areas of thinned bluing. It is hard to keep surface rust and "patina" from developing on these areas, and I'm thinking I would just enjoy this great sixgun more if I had it reblued. Would you send it to S&W, or to Fords? Or other suggestions. Gunsmith John Gallagher has done some very credible bluing work for me on custom Rugers, but not on a S&W so far. Your thoughts? Anyone know what S&W charges for a reblue?

6 years ago, S&W reblued a 29 for me. I was very impressed with the job. You could not tell if it was reblued or unfired laying 2 guns side by side.
I have 2 29-2s, one is new in box the other reblued. The darker trigger is new, the other used.

Do you remember what it cost at the time? I'm sure things have gone up in 6 years, but maybe not too much. Do you think there's any down-the-road value advantage to a factory reblue as opposed to anyone else's? We're talking shooter grade guns here, not collectibles, but like anyone else I don't want to unnecessarily "devalue" my stuff, either.

You can get refinishing prices on the S&W Performance Center site.

It was around $175.00 with new sights at the time. It's a little more now.
A factory restore is nearly a plus to S&W collectors. Mine is a shooter so I have nicks and a turn line on it now, but still looks nice.

I am having my S&W M10s bead blasted blued and I hope it will not rust anymore. rz625-8
