S&W Shield Holster

I too have been thinking about getting a holster for my Shield from this company so I would also be interested in any first hand reports.

Well, i'd first be impressed if s&w can keep my magazines from dropping. then i'll figure out a good holster lol.

I just got one of these last week, it is a top notch quality holster! The Shield and mag fit in it like a glove! I would not hesitate to buy another one from them. I ordered on a Friday, and it was at my door on Wednesday, total for the holster and shipping was less then $50.Do yourself a favor and pick one of these up!

I forgot to mention, the 8rd mag will not fit in the mag pouch, the plastic piece that conforms to the grip hits on the top of the holster, so you have to carry the 8rd mag in the gun. I dont like the 8rd so I bought another 7rd and carry one in the gun and one in the mag pouch.

Here are a few pics.

That's the dumbest idea I've ever seen.

If you actually find yourself in a GUNFIGHT and not at your backyard barbeque or at the range showing off to your buddies, you either have to:

a) Stop shooting, put the gun in your off hand, pull the mag from that goofy-a** rig, switch the pistol and mag to the opposite hand(s), drop the empty mag from the pistol, load the second mag, rack the slide, and THEN hope the other guy didn't blow your brains out while you're farting around with your purty holster.

b) Stop shooting, reach ACROSS your body and fumble around to get the second mag, drop, reload, rack, and shoot.

Either way, you're worm food.

You should buy holsters and support gear for function, not 'cause its purty. Sheesh.

Did I miss something? Can't find ONE post about the holster being "purty"

I dont see how it is a dumb idea. Without the mag pouch, my extra mag stays home. This was the best solution for me, I wanted everything in a compact, easy to use package, grab and go, thats what I got...I'm not a cop, I don't want to wear a duty belt.

You don't need a duty belt to carry a Shield. I use a Sticky either IWB or in my front pocket, but regardless of what brand holster you use you should have an extra mag on your weak side so that you can grab it, reload, and stay in the fight without EVER taking your eyes or sights off the bad guy.

If you DON'T carry an extra mag - ESPECIALLY with a pistol that has an eight round magazine - then you certainly are not serious about concealed carry or protecting yourself and your loved ones.

Like Clint Smith says, carrying a weapon is not SUPPOSED to be comfortable. It's supposed to be comforting.

Are you kidding me, do you think before you speak? What about revolver guys? I guess your probably one of those guys that also says, "if you don't carry a .45, you may as well not carry anything" huh

**sigh**

The guys I know who carry a revolver for personal defense also carry speed loaders. In a pouch. On their belt. On the weak hand side, opposite their holster.

Oh, and they aren't attached to the holster, either, like that goofy thing in the link above.

Nope. Although do I mostly carry a .45 cal 1911, if you'll actually read my post above you'll see that I said that I carry my (9mm) S H I E L D in a Sticky brand holster, either IWB or in my front pocket.

And for the record, I carry a spare mag in a Sticky mag pouch on my weak hand side, opposite the holster.

C'mon now, its just common sense. If you are gonna carry for personal defense and you actually end up in the suck, don't you want spare ammo? You KNOW that you're (not YOUR) gonna run that puppy dry just out of sheer adrenaline.

There is NO excuse - NONE - for not carrying an extra magazine (or two) and you want it where you can get to it fast, reload fast, and never take your eyes off the guy trying to shoot you in the head.

You canNOT do that using the rig in the link above. Just not possible.

To each...his own....A little practice goes along ways, as with any new piece of equipment, you need to practice drawing and reloading, before you make it your every day carry rig.

I also have a Ruger LCR. I can tell you, that for me, it takes alot longer to reload it twice "15rds", then it does to reload my Shield once "15rds".

I thought FilmMkr was a little harsh in some of his comments, but his point is the very same one I would have offered, had I posted here first. Holsters that put the spare mag next to the holster are simply a poor design choice, for all the reasons illuminated above. It may seem a convienent idea for some (and sell a few holsters based on this feature), but that still doesn't make it a good idea.

In a perfect world, everyone carries (at least) one spare magazines for their bottom feeder. In the real world, people frequently don't. While most of us can understand the reasons for doing so, sometimes the path of least resistance leads a person out of the house with just their gun. While this holster design provides far less than optimal placement for a spare, if you can't manage enough self-discipline to carry a spare mag pouch on your weak side, then you're probably better off dealing with either reaching around your body to fish out a spare mag or swapping hands during a mag change, than not having any spare at all.

Better idea: When you buy a new gun, buy yourself a holster sans the integrated pouch and spare pouch (if one is not already owned) at the same time. Form the habbit of carrying both a primary weapon on your strong side and a spare mag on your weak side.

No spare or a poorly placed spare are both bad ideas. One choice might get you killed quicker than the other, but both choices will compromise your ability to defend yourself, when your gun runs dry or 'tap-rack-bang' doesn't fix a failure to fire problem.

MT,
I've just seen your advertisement in three threads in the last couple of minutes.
While I support your involvement, I think maybe you could get in trouble for doing this...

Just a heads up. I know we have a lot of vendors but they don't advertise in the threads. ;)

Nice looking stuff by the way!

Thanks for the heads up. I didn't think about that, don't want to step on anyone's toes. I like this forum.. .

The brass around here runs a tight ship and that's partly why it's such a good site. You'll do a good business interacting with everyone here, so I don't want you to get in trouble.

Have a great day!
