S&W Shield Paint Fill In

New to forum. Had my S&W Shield 9mm for two weeks now. Have put 100 rounds through it with no problems. Added Talon grips and this morning did the paint fill as seen on a number of other posts. Used Testors model paint, small brush and Testors enamel thinner and a cotton nail pad as a cleaner. What do you think?

I used nail polish on mine.

I used a white crayon on my glock 26. Clean the oil off and rub it with a crayon, buff with a soft cloth, touch up any missed spots, rub it with the cloth. I've cleaned it at least 8 or 9 times with balistol and it stays put. If and when I get tired of it i'll use a wooden toothpick and and a soft cloth and remove it. It's crazy but that crayon works. I've been thinking about doing my shield but have not decided yet. Something about the all black just seems better for me.

Looks really nice. I used silver nail polish first, got bored one day, changed it to gunmetal gray, and if I get bored again, got some copper to try. With a wife and a teen in the house, all that it costs me is time.

Fyr145. I did not do the 9mm stamping on the top thinking it would get a lot of abuse at the range and wear off.

Wow, this is a nice touch. I just picked up a Shield on Friday and might have to give this a try.

Lets say later on down the road your not happy with the paint and want it black again, whats the best way to remove it? Nail polish remover and an old tooth brush? The polish remover wont hurt the slide/barrel any way will it?

I "color coded" our 9mm and 40 cal handguns and mags so as to avoid confusion. I initially used the Testor's solvent, but found that I could wipe off a good bit of the excess after a few minutes dry time. A quick rub with CLP removed the rest.

I did the side of the mags and the funny S&W emblem on the base.

For removing Nail Polish, Acetone Free Polish remover is what you want to work with. IIRC... It will also work with testors paint.

For those not sure which color they want to use, Crayon is much easier to apply and remove (your favorite gun cleaner & toothbrush) during the experimentation phase.
I actually just stuck with Crayon and touch it up once or twice a year.

300 rounds, and no prob with wear. Since the markings are so deep, the color is well below the surface.

Nail Polish is cheap and easy and if you do a search or use my handle you will see how I do it with nail polish all my M&Ps have the nail polish treatment and you can buy it just about anywhere that sells cosmetics.



If you don't like the way it turns out then just use non acetone nail polish remover and it is all gone. note that the time of the above picture was almost two years ago and the gun still looks the same today.

I decided to go gold. I used model paint and model paint thinner. I found it a lot easier to paint the color on and wipe it off with a dry cloth and then let it dry before wiping lightly with anther cloth dampened with the thinner.

I have the top painted, after shooting several 100 rounds, the paint stays on with no problems.

But its a personal thing, some like it - some don't.

Nice, I still like the white.

I went with silver to try to match the gray color already used on the slide and I used nail polish too.

PS: Love your Talon grips, I love mine.
