That gun could be one of a bunch that were shipped to Shapleigh Hardware in December of 1917. The serial number is in the vicinity of the numbers on other guns that went there, but I don't know if the shipment consisted only of contiguous numbers. Does that gun chamber .455 Mk II or some other cartridge?

The star next to the serial number means that it went back to the factory for some kind of service. If you take off the stocks, you may see a number like, say, 10.28, which would identify October 1928 as the date of return. I don't know the company engraving patterns, but would wonder if this might be a company job. I can't see the detail well enough in the photos to know exactly how high the quality is. It looks like it might be very high indeed.

Very nice gun. Did it come to you with any story at all that might be researched and confirmed?

We need more pics.
A pic of the left gripstrap without the grips would be nice.
A good pic of the sideplate would be nice.
Then, just more pretty pics would be nice. :D

Some data is easy to supply-
It looks like all the guts are there, and they are very clean. :D
BTW- I see the screws in a pile. The FRONT screw in the sideplate is a fitted screw, and should always be replaced in the front hole. You have 2 outa 3 chances to be wrong, so segregate it when disassembling.

The engraving looks very nice, and has an English flavor to me. I do not think it is factory. Do you see any remnants of Brit proofs? Do I see traces of proofs in the cyl flutes?

Thanks for the reply's guys, I don't know anything about this gun, I'm posting it for a friend,. This gun is actually for sale on my website. I think I will foreword this thread to him so he can answer your questions. thanks again!!

Is "MLG 2004" for Michael Gouse an engraver in Montana I believe. It looks a little like some of his work. Some other members here have posted shots of his work. I remember 2 44spl, one had Skeeter Skeltons TT brand on it as a tribute.

THAT IS CORRECT.MICHAEL IS SENDING ME OUT A LETTER AS TO THE FACT HE DID THE REVOLVER..THANKS ALL.. BOPE

6 1/2" barrel was standard on this English model. There was a 7 1/2 " barrel made, but only in the target model as reported in Supica's Third Edition. Your serial number is outside the 455 First Model, as 6000 were made, so must be a converted 44 Triple-lock.

Supica states that 44 Triple-locks were converted to 455 in serial number range of 12000 to 13000, but does not attribute them to English orders. He also states that many of those were converted to 45 Colt.

Lastly, Neal & Jinks book list 666 Triple-lock serial numbers that were converted to .455 for England. That sn range is from 1104 - 10,417. More info that will make those ulcers worse.

Factory letter from Roy Jinks should be your next venture. Certainly worth the $50 fee for such a valuable gun.
