I have a S & W victory model .38 (V393573) . I'm not sure of it's exact caliber since there were several variations (38 special, 38 S & W, 38 - 200). It has had a number of modifications - 6" slab-side target barrel, Bow-Mar sights, and an oversized but period smooth walnut grip with S & W crest. I am trying to discover if this was something experimental done by Smith & Wesson or by an outside gunsmith.

It's highly unlikely somebody would go through all that trouble and expense to modify a .38 S&W (that's the same as .38/200) British Service model, especially if it's nicely done.

We can't tell the caliber from the serial, you'd need to test the cylinder's chambers with live rounds or take really good inside photos to post.

I have several photos of the firearm on my desktop. Any easy way to post them? I tried and it asked for a URL address.
