S&W vs. Colt rifles

I knew somebody would drag this out....outdated, not even kept up by the originator. No longer valid.
Could you explain why high pressure testing, magnetic particle inspection and properly staked gas keys -- and a page that explains them -- is outdated? Or perhaps you're thinking of the chart that compares different manufacturers?

Sorry, the chart is out of date. The informational page is still valid, but the comparison chart is not. I didn't realize that chart is not even linked anymore.

Actually the guy doesnt update it because everyone and their mother wants to argue why that their Century Arms International AR is better then XYZ. Its bad enough that these posts pop up every 2 months but imagine being the guy who did all the leg work and having to defend yourself against every Bubba who shot 20 rounds out of his new AR with UTG parts and wants to claim its better or just as good as.....

Sorry, but been many years since I was in the military and spoke in acrynoms. What is UTG? Great thread BTW.

UTG/Leapers is a company that makes aftermarket tactical accessories for AKs, Mosin Nagants and ARs. Mainly rail nahdguards and mounts. Its Chinese junk and im not trying to make fun of China. The stuff is not precise and most of the time the rails will not be centered with the barrel. They have this "innovative" side mount for an AK that is laughable. Real AK side mounts use a lever to secure, assuring a return to zero when put back on. The UTG mount uses 4 screws. So when you take on and off each time for cleaning you have to undo the screws. Every time you re tighten the screws its impossible to be the same exact tightness as before for each of the 4 screws thus assuring that the scope or red dot never returns to zero. But, they wouldnt be selling for $40+/- if Bubbas wernt buying. Add to that cheap ammo and a cheap scope and they wonder why their rifle (usually an AK) is inaccurate. Its never the shooter or the gear so it has to be the rifle....right!?!?

Google UTG mount for Mosin Nagant! :banghead:

There is a UTG Pro line now that is made in America. If you buy a S&W M&P 15T, it appears that you are getting a UTG quad rail.

Just taking the scope on and off will take away "true" dead zero. Esp if you are not using the same torque on those mounts too. :D

As for the quad rail... That's the LAST place I put anything scope or "dot" related. Everything scope mount wise, stays behind the "D" ring and above the BCG. Another reason they make those weird shaped ring mounts. :D

Only thing I use on a quad rail are "funny" furniture. :D

The one I bought for my Sport said made in the USA on the side of the box. Fits tight and is more of a heat vent than anything else. My old "plastic" handguards didn't have heat shields... I don't like having "Hot Spots" on my barrel,I prefer an even heat/cool.

I'm not a believer in the all UTG is junk philosophy. I don't have any UTG parts, but I don't see how their drop in aluminum rail would be any worse that plastic handguards. Like you said, optics belong on the receiver.

I do have a UTG riser on my son's M&P 15-22. The riser has been fine for his use.

I have used UTG parts, the American made stuff is quality. Back to the Pony or the M&P.....I dont think there is anything special about a Colt but to each his own!

DING ! DING ! DING ! You CAN'T complain unless you ACTULLY OWN one. It is a VERY quality made USA part. I bought it because I couldn't see/feel any side by side HANDS ON difference. Just cause something cost more DON'T make it better. That dog died years ago with the pony soldiers philosophies.:D :D :D ...now go sit in the corner and be nice. :D

Then sit back and watch as they spontaneously multiply in your closet...

No kidding! (Although in my case, they didn't beget little ARs.) I used to have just 2 handguns; 9mm & .22LR. I then went out to get a 10/22 for my younger kids to shoot (for some reason they had a problem with the .22 pistol) but that somehow ended up being a 10/22 & M&P15 on the same day... a short time later, a shotgun ended up in the safe as well, not to mention over 1500 rounds of .223/5.56 and an equivalent amount of 9mm and .22LR. Add to that scopes and other "accessories" and I'm thinking.... I could've bought another car (used of course... I haven't spent enough to have bought a new one yet :) )

@garfy. They key word is "yet." :)

I have an Eotech and a Troy rail coming in this week. Among other things...
