I just bought a new safe and was wondering what everyone else is using as a dehumidifier in theirs. I live in Florida and the humidity is always high especialy in the shaded end of my house that never sees the sun.

There are a bunch on the market, which do the job for different size safes (volume, in cubic feet).

I use a "stick" dehumidifier (AKA a Thermo-Electric Gun Safe Dehumidifier). It's a long tube with a wire coming out of it. The wire in the package comes with a plug which you install after you snake it through the power grommet in the back of your safe. You plug it in and forget it.

They are available in big box outdoor stores, as well as online.

I use a Remington and a Stack-On rechargable dehumidifier.

They are wireless and you plug them directly in the power outlet to dry them. So far no issues at all!

I have been using the golden rod for many years and do not have a problem with humidity. Also, live in Florida and the house is stable temperature all year. They have a few sizes depending on the size of the safe. You can purchase it at any of the online supply houses.

i also use the golden rod...my safe is large (six foot) and according to the inside hygrometer today, humidity is about 35% which is on the low side....so...they work!

I don't think the "Golden Rod" and similar devices are really de-humidifiers. They heat the air inside the safe to prevent the air temperature from falling to the dew point with following condensation. The only way I know of removing the moisture from the air in the safe is the use of a dessicant. I use six large cans of dessicant and a "Golden Rod" in my safe. I also put seals around the door to prevent air entry.
