Safe to carry 4046 with one in the chamber?

A vast majority of the guns made today are meant to have a round chambered at all times when carrying it. The 4046 is no different. These guns that are designed to do this have much different triggers than a standard 1911, be it a longer heavier DA trigger or a striker fired type or whatever.

I don't see the issue. If you are property trained with the gun, know it's always loaded and carry it in a quality holster, then you should be fine carrying it that way.

It is just as safe to carry the 4046 with a loaded chamber as it is to carry any of the modern polymer pistols (Glock, SA, H&K). All of the designs will fire a round if the trigger is depressed. All of the designs will not fire a round until the trigger is depressed. The designs have multiple safeties, including passive drop safeties.

That being said, there is a lot of evidence that even highly trained people tend to rest the trigger finger on the trigger when stressed. If that happens and the startle reaction happens or one trips/stumbles (contracts fingers), it is possible to discharge a round when not intended. That is the issue in a nutshell.

That being said the DAO stroke of the 4046 is much longer and a bit heavier than that of the Glock, probably the design with the most loaded chambers in holsters on the streets of the USA.

Only you can decide if you are comfortable with a loaded chamber on a gun with no manual safety.
