Does anyone know if future M&P lines will incorporate the Shield style thumb safety over the current thumb safety? Just curious.

I think the OP is referring to the size of the lever. The purpose of the Shield was to make it easier to conceal and more comfortable to carry. A larger lever on the Shield might make it easier to swipe off, but a larger lever makes it less comfortable and more likely to snag on something. I have no problem swiping the Shield safety off, with my thumb, as I draw and start to raise on target.

I have a full size M&P 9MM and Shield 9MM. Both have safeties but I like the Shield's much better. Full size is too big in my opinion and I had it removed.

agree with robkarrob, I have no trouble flipping off the safety with my thumb, Heck it didn't even take a lot of practice to be competent. My FS 40 does not have a safety so I cannot comment on the difference.

I run both standard size and extended safeties on my 1911 platforms, but for me, the Shield's is just too small. How much more do I want ? Not exactly sure (perhaps not as much as the full-size M&P), but somewhat bigger, none the less. I have over 30 years of of real trigger time behind the 1911 in both carry and competition, so it is not as though I don't have enough experience to know how to use it.

Now that I have had my own Shield in my hands, I can agree. I have no issuing flipping the safety off. If OFF and ON were reversed, yes, it would be hard to flip it off in a hurry.

I know that there was some discussion on this forum in the past about "why have a safety on the Shield?".

All I can say is that I am glad my standard 9mm Shield has one. Personally, the trigger is pretty light, and I can see ripping one off trying to reholster. The safety IMO is perfect.

I pocket carry mine with the Desantis SuperFly. Not too bad.
