Hi All,

So just about to pick up the new Pro 5" and looking to stock up on some practice ammo.

Smart companies tend to do what's most efficient, so guessing all these 115 grain rounds are actually all the same and just rebranded... can anyone confirm?

  • Federal RTP9115 - "White Box" range ammo 115g
  • Federal WM5199 - FMJ RN 115g
  • American Eagle AE9DP - FMJ 115g

Thanks!

Just buy an assortment of everything 115/124/147 and find out what works best for you and your Pro. Only practice with 115gr if you intend to carry it. There's nothing wrong with using 115gr as carry ammo if it works for you. Personally I like 115gr in most of my guns but some prefer 124 or 147.

All the ammo you listed is made by Federal. The 5199 is a full metal jacket round nose. The American Eagle just says full metal jacket, so it might not be a round nose bullet. Based on the fact that the ammo you listed is all made by Federal, I would guess that they are pretty close to the same ammo wise. I agree with ATF, try different types of ammo in your gun. Different guns like different types ammo. Then you get to figure out what part of your trigger finger your gun likes. My 1911's like up to the first knuckle. My M&P's like the tip of my finger. It is all a learning experience.

My experience has been with 115 factory ammo in both my 5in M&P pro 9's that POI is anywhere from 3 - 5 in low at 20 yards. The only thing that I was able to do without changing the factory sights was load 147gr and that fixed it right up. Since one has a reflex sight on it and the other remains stock. I still shoot 147 plated hand loads in each. Maybe some day I will switch out the sights with some from Dawson but right now I have a enough 147's to get me through competition for this year.

See what works before you stock up on anything. Especially with the pro series is my advice.

good luck
