These were done this past weekend by artists from all round the world. Here on my island fortress.

All contestants used a substance that helps the sand bond, and were allowed to use structural rods within the ten foot high shapes. These were done by a single individual or the Cherokee Maiden was done by two artists.

Yearly competition at Revere Beach, MA.

They have been ongoing I'd say for at least 12 years, incredible thing to see, mind boggling how people have the talent to create these sculptures of sand.

Trying hard not to look too much at the sculpture of the lady lying down with her leg up in the air.

I think my favorite is the Storm Trooper.

OTM, where is this? Mustang Island? That one of the lady under a sheet, is just fantastic creativity.
Yes, just down the beach from Cajunlawyers favorite hamburger joint is on the beach...the sculptors have been coming here every year, chamber of commerce says it's the "largest in the USA", but I couldn't tell ya if that means contestants, vendors, bands, square yards or tons of sand. I know you can't hardly drive down the street near the restaurant area of town for three days:D.

Apparently these artists get flown in and are given top notch treatment while here, and they show amateurs the ropes, and have "kids functions" it's pretty fun.

The lass looks like she fell off a surfboard.

The last big blow that created major surf in South Florida lead to a sand sculpture and shark encounter.
Most of the Ft. Lauderdale strip was flooded but I got on the beach a bit north to check out the surf for a possible kayak adventure. Monster waves on the third reef and board surfers were getting thrashed...and loving it.
While taking video I saw a surfer coming in and a small dark object alongside. As his board hit the sand so did a three foot shark. He picked it up and we got some nice video of the incident. He asked and I emailed it to him. He said he took time off from work so as not to miss the outrageous surf.
Turns out another of his hobbies is giant sand sculptures that require lotsa folks to make it happen.
Will try to get some pics.

My video made the news that night.

The beach....a great place....except for sand in your shorts. :)
