I have a little carved piece here at home made out of sandalwood. It pretty hard, a lot more so than walnut so it should make a good grip material.

There are a lot of evergreens that are hardwoods, Here in California that are a couple of species of Oaks, Bay trees... and most if not all hardwoods from the rainforests are also evergreens.

Believe it or not, balsa wood is considered a hardwood. Hardwood or softwood does not necessarily denote hardness, hardwoods are deciduous trees ( and drop their leaves each year and softwoods are conifirs. There is a lot of overlap and some hardwoods are very soft while some softwoods are fairly hard.

I've shown this photo before, but the subject of this thread invites me to post it again -- sandalwood grips on a 629.

Very hard -- and very pretty if you like contrasty wood on your revolvers.

I'm sorry, I can't recall. I found him here in the forum classifieds about 6 - 8 months ago.
