Santa Took a Rimfire Poop on One of My Workbenches...

This photo reminds me of "Where's Waldo?". And I still don't see the NAA revolver. :(

Mea culpa..

Yes, in fact possibly from a Kansas City PD .357 Magnum.....a 4" barrel with a Baughman Quick Draw front sight on a King ramp base - the KCPD configuration! The serial number would be another good clue - a serial number between 59000 - 62000 would be in the prime KCPD range.

Bravo Sir!

I've been saving this for a "project gun." I did really lose track of it, life gets in the way I suppose. I was so happy to see it again, then looked around at the mess and realized that I am the "project."

Any suggestions on what one would do with it?

All the best,

Michael

I need to do that. Wife wants to move to a condo so I'm going to have to shed some guns and reloading gear. I have 2 years worth of reloading components and 5K of .22 ammo. I think I have a few years at best but I know what's around the corner. Just sold my Duramax and selling the trailer in the spring. :(

Please don't do it Brother! Stay home, keep your gear, just my 27 cents.

I made the move 5 years ago. I went from a 12x15 room with 17' of reloading benches to 5' of bench in the laundry room! I shed 1 progressive press, 3 single stage presses, 1 bullet sizer, and hundreds of old magazines! I kept, 1 progressive, 1 single stage, 1 bullet sizer, and a Redding T-7. With only 3 presses, I can only have 3 projects going at a time now.

I went from 225 guns to 186 (I have bought 6 since the move!) and need to shed some more (as the grandkids age, that will consume a good stack of 22 Rifles). Every time I set up at a show to shed guns, I buy more! But if I sell 3 to 6, for every purchase, my new acquisitions are self funding. That alone keeps SWMBO happy!

The stack of ammo cans in the garage, is another story! They keep multiplying! Part of the problem, I can't pick them up if they are full of loose revolver ammo any more! So I now have 5 cans of 45 Colt instead of 3. That goes for ACP, 38 special, 308, 223, 303 Brit and 45-70 too!

My wife says I have a problem! I agree, I think my problem is too little space!

We're both in our 70's. I just turned 70 last year and my wife is a few years older. We're both in pretty good health. The problem is we live 12 miles from the nearest town and it ain't much once you get there.

So it makes sense for us to get a little closer to things like stores and a hospital. We're going to start looking at some real estate next year to see what we can afford. I'm holding out for some space for my reloading and small wood projects, possibly a small shop. Just not going to be happy without a man cave. ;)

The barrel is indeed from a KS non-RM in the serial number range you mentioned.

It's not for sale, I lost the darn thing again.

...Glad to hear you got a whole bunch of scratched up old Smiths.

... and a few others since you signed me up for the Association. It's been a fun ride. I also have one of those loose pre war 357 barrels sitting around waiting for the right project. I also have an RM with a slightly bulged barrel. I've just never taken the time to get the two mated together.

I foresee another Quigly masterpiece on the horizon!!!

Pffft.

My whole ammo storage shelf collapsed a few years ago. 10,000 22s and 10,000 various CF cartridges. Most of the boxes tore open and loose cartridges spilled all over the garage. Spent 3 days picking it all op.

Holy carp, what a mess!

I keep my ammo in the plastic dry storage boxes on the floor. I used to have about six of those gorilla racks but I never trusted those things. We have earthquakes here and storing heavy item on shelving is a bad idea...... for me anyway.

I use a shelf similar but stronger for components in the loading/laundry room, I have all the bullets on the bottom shelf (about 35,000) but I have 2x6 reinforcements under that shelf in 4 places! The original 1/2" particle board shelves did last 6 months, They were replaced with 3/4 A-CX exterior plywood! (the plastic shelving this replaced was rated at 750 pounds! About 1/3 of those units warped so bad that they were trashed during the move. My wife now has them as an entire wall of shelving in the sewing room.

Oh geez, that gives me the shivers! Last summer, I had one ammo shelf collapse, knocking down another and part of a third, which was mixed with ammo, reloading components, etc.. I can't believe we didn't hear the crash. One of the shelves winged the vehicle parked next to it. I too spent several days cleaning that mess up. Oh man, I hope that doesn't happen again.

Good times...
