I was going to do an "M&P Prototype" or "S&W/Glock Pistol" teaser title but next thing you know it would be passed on as true.
I happened across a gun I'd not heard of and was the sole bidder - $250.00. A Sardius SD-9, imported around 1989 or so.

The frame is a steel stamping. Rails are made by the top edge of the frame being curled over, similar fashion as the Kahr PM line.
The slide is hollow and has no moving parts. The firing pin, LCI, ejector and extractor are housed in a breech block. The extractor drops into the breech block and pressure against the inside of the slide provides tension.
The top of the breech block has two locking lugs which mate into cuts in the slide. The barrel is fixed and the recoil spring is captive.
The gun functions like a Kahr, except that it doesn't use a camming action to compress the FP spring. It's a straight back push like the VP70. Will double strike.
Racking the slide takes a bit more effort than most similar sized pistols.
Mag release is located top center and is flush fit with the grip. That thumb safety probably looks familiar.
No slide release. Last shot fired and the magazine follower holds the slide to the rear. Some mag followers are shallow and don't do the hold open.
Trigger pull is very heavy, probably +16 lbs and has a little wobble to it. Has a definite hitch to it at the rear, so it's "pull, final press" rather than all the way through.
Internally the gun appears very well finished, especially the breech block. Externally it has a prototype look to it.
Take down is simple. Push out the barrel pin and pull the trigger, slide comes off with all the internals. Tap the slide and the breech block, barrel and recoil spring slide out to the rear
Interesting set up. A mix of Remington 51, Kahr and HK.
